We are traveling down to Bay of LA on the 20th. Planning our expenses and need your help.
Gasoline per Ltr and Gal.
Never stayed at Baja Cactus what are their room rates?
Rate of exchange is it about 19 to 1 ?
Thanks!Alm - 7-7-2018 at 02:30 PM
Budget gas in US prices. I would fill in the US too, given more-less equal prices, rising peso and falling dollar. El Rosario is unavoidable pit-stop
and gas fill-up.
Have never stayed in Cactus, my route makes Ensenada stop more convenient. Hotels South of Ensenada could be cheaper than Cactus, and not too far for
getting to BOLA before sunset. Except for Fri-Sat-Sun, when room prices double. Apples to apples, Cactus is a higher standard than hotels in
Ensenada, but since the question was about prices...
Exchange rate ~19, but in small towns expect getting 15-16 peso for one greenback. Save yourself a trouble, buy pesos in Ca. You can exchange pesos
back to USD again, if there is anything left.

Gas figures out to about $3.85US a gallon (+/-)
You might want to overnight at Hotel Mission Inn, Vicente Guerrero. Price about $45US a night (+/-). Stayed there a couple of nights. Nice rooms,
restaurant out front.......http://www.hotelmissioninn.com/English-Version/Hotel-Restaurant-in-San-Quintin-Baja-California-Mexico-Index.php
In BOLA, recommend the Costa del Sol motel (new rooms) and another good restaurant.....http://www.bahiadelosangeles.info/costa-del-sol.htm
Get your pesos at any bank or supermarket ATM, or in the Aduana (Customs) building when you get your FMM.........recommend using pesos over dollars as
merchants will set their own rates. At least when you use ATM's you are getting close to the official rateBob and Susan - 7-7-2018 at 02:52 PM
exchange dollars at the border just BEFORE you cross
current exchange rate is about 18 pesos to the dollar
it changes daily
exchange whats left back when you return
gas is $3.89usa a gallon
ONLY buy "verde" green
Bob and Susan - 7-7-2018 at 03:01 PM
mission inn is a very good choice but the rate is:
975 for a single= ~$55usa
1080 for a double=~$59usa
restaurant is very good but you have to like tecate and goat cheese : )
and make a reservation...they fill up with business travelers David K - 7-7-2018 at 03:07 PM
Cactus is 4 star rooms at 2 star prices. You will be impressed. Don't overplan your trip... enjoy!

If you are, stop at Parcela 12, south of San Quintin, at about KM 16wilderone - 7-7-2018 at 06:09 PM
I was surprised at the high price of groceries in BOLA. If you don't need much in town, then probably won't make much of a difference, but don't
expect chips, salsa, beer, ice, canned goods, fruit to be bargain prices. blackwolfmt - 7-7-2018 at 06:18 PM

Any chance you remember what the beer prices were??Alm - 7-7-2018 at 06:32 PM
Yep, expensive groceries in BOLA - all of it, be it local Baja produce or something hauled in from far away. Limited assortment too.
Cactus... 2 star prices? In Baja Norte this would mean US$20 off season, $US30-35 high season. This hotel is priced reasonably but I doubt it's that
cheap. In El Rosario there isn't much to choose from, so you'll pay what you have to.BajaBlanca - 7-7-2018 at 06:43 PM
have fun!fatoldcapt - 7-7-2018 at 07:13 PM
Thanks for all the good tips. I've been traveling down to Bay of LA a few times each summer for the last 10 years. We started getting pesos a few
years back. Easy to do business that way. Price for fuel lets me calculate how much pesos to have for that. I've never stayed in San Quintin. We stay
at the little motel in El Rosario next to Moma Espenosa's. We have stayed at a few other flee-bag places when that's full. It's usually $35 a room.
Never tried the Cactus. Saw photos and it looks real nice. At Bay of LA we always stay at Casa Diaz. I know, I know, it's a hole. It's kind of like
camping. Sleeping on cots on the patio. But there's a shower and bathroom and someplace to lock up the gear. And we're a cheap bunch. Alm - 7-7-2018 at 08:23 PM
Nothing is wrong with Casa Diaz. Right on the beach, nice view, one of the cheapest hotels there. Friendly local drunks hanging around the gate from
the street . Not sure if they have A/C already.
Dagget hotel would be the 2nd budget choice if you want to be on the beach and need A/C. Costs a little more.fatoldcapt - 7-7-2018 at 10:09 PM
No AC. We bring a few tower fans down. Makes it tolerable. Of course we only come down to fish in the hottest parts of the year. Sticky too. Africa
Hot. Bob and Susan - 7-8-2018 at 05:00 AM

Even if some choose to not stay at Baja Cactus or in El Rosario, we all should buy our fuel there to support Antonio and his fine efforts in paying it
forward for all travelers. You never know when you may need what he has provided for that region.
With a new restaurant to support when it opens, it will be on my list to stop by and give a further nod to Antonio for all he has brought to the area.
Peace, love, and fish tacos. grizzlyfsh95 - 7-8-2018 at 09:04 AM
It is just under $50 for double occupancy.Alm - 7-8-2018 at 09:05 AM

I agree 100% with what Surhat has said. As a bonus the employees are very friendly and attentive. David K - 7-8-2018 at 09:24 AM
