I use Banamex ATM's almost exclusively

Pleased with their service, even one day when they didn't dispense any money and charged my account with 4000 pesos. Corrected the very next day!

I will open up a little Money exchange in next few weeks in downtown La Paz near main banks.
I know this is self promotion marketing but for sure I will pay better than banks and other money exchanges.
In example today rate would be
10.85-11.05 with a 20 centavos spread.
Look on XVI Septiembre near Malecon in about one month.

Tucker, that's good to hear, but did the Banamex people correct things on their own, or did you have to hang around and hassle them?

I called my bank in CA and they handled it.

Never would have thought of that, but I guess if it was on their card they would have some interest in it. I wouldn't have thought to take my bank's number with me -- thanks.

That was at the money changers. X-rates always has a higher listing.

When you use the ATM you git the international rate. the rate posted on the website is the over the counter rate and it is always correct. this is the rate you git with transactions at the bank window.

Exchange rate history

MrBillM - 3-8-2005 at 02:14 PM

I bought at 10.75 both in March and April 2004 at the Cambio on Cole Road off of Hwy 111 in Calexico so it's been roughly a year since the peso was that strong.

tim40 - 3-8-2005 at 03:21 PM

I am expecting that since we are getting ready to make another larger investment in Baja, the exchange rate will dip to the 10 year low....How is that for fatalistic.

thebajarunner - 3-8-2005 at 05:20 PM

According to x-rates.com the closing today (3/8) was 10.9755. Oanda.com has today's rate at 10.99.
Highest in last 120 days was Sept 14 at 11.5995 and lowest is today.
Go to Google and ask for Mexican peso exchange to get real numbers.

120 days is considerably short of "a few years". As I said earlier, in March and April of 2004 it was 10.75.
