Fishing Report for Bahia Asuncion...tournament pics

Last weekend was the annual fishing tournament here in Bahia Asuncion sponsored by the fishing cooperativa to raise funds for the university scholarship program for local students. It was a gorgeous day but windy in the afternoon and only a small handful of yellowtail were caught but lots of nice calicos.

Everyone enjoyed the after party where the coop fed the crowd, musicians played and the kids had a blast in the water!

lots of action out here at the blowhole with shore fishers dodging waves.

As usual Tomas Arce from Pta.Eugenia took first place with a 23lb yellowtail he caught way the heck up north and offshore a ways were the water temps were beautiful. Any day now our temps should warm up.

The calico bass fishing is outstanding....amigo Damian has been catching these toads the last few days right out in front of the Inn...along with whitefish and sheepshead.

Rossman reports getting a few firecracker YT up at San Pablo so the fun begins as the water temps creep upwards. Air temps are divine in the 80's and cool off at night...still no fan needed and sleeping under a blanket!

You are correct that July is a silly month for a tournament but the powers that be who organize the State wide tournament circuit needed ours to be in July so the qualifiers could participate in Loreto...or so I was told is the reason for the early date. Years ago it was on the Traditional Fiestas weekend the 2nd week of August and even that was a tad early!

Hey....when you come down I can hook you up with my peeps in GN for grouper and big BSB...awesome panga and cool guys.

Rossman is first in line for the yellowtail return...he got into beautiful 25-30lb fish trolling through bait boils up north of here the last few days....so Game On in Asuncion! finally
