Glad to see this taking place, even though I do so love a good marlin taco. Although I eat them in Mexico, maybe I should stop ?

With the recent demise of dorado in the Sea (this year MIGHT be an exception, in terms of size, but the numbers are still DOWN from even 5 years ago), marlin have become the next target. The release ethic is very healthy in recreational fishermen, but not in the commercial industry. Marlin tacos are common in Mexico. Usually smoked.

Bill, how has the dorado season been in Loreto? I am summering in the US this year, but it does seem like the best year in about five years.

Hook, There are a few more keeper dorado being caught out of Loreto than for the past five years or so, but not many. I had a few days logging over 100 NM looking for dorado and/or billfish with no luck and pretty much gave up in disgust. There have been some yellowfin around from footballs to super cows. I shifted my sights to the Pacific last week and fished out of Lopez Mateos three days for wahoo limits each day.

I don't target Marlin now. I love to fight billfish. They will whip your tail.
But killing one is akin to killing a dolphin or whale in my book. I don't target sharks either.
Marlin tastes terrible. That's why it has to be smoked.

Plenty of Dorado in the SQ area and off the finger bank here in Ens. Mostly on kelps up north the southern fish are a mix with decent YT in there off the high spots outside.

I wouldn't doubt it the dorado moved off San diego - water temps pushing 80!

here's a question. with the U.S. being the largest importer of Marlin........who the heck is eating all this marlin:?:

United States: 166 metric tons/year
Sri Lanka: 95 mt/year
Japan: 40 mt/year
Singapore: 36 mt/year
France: 32 mt/year

It's a start. I've watched the decline in the fisheries down there over the past 30 yrs, Billfish included.

It's part of their "culture" to be greedy and kill every last living thing in the ocean.
And you know that we must respect everyone's "culture" no mater how disgusting and stupid it is... right?
That's why I love being American. I don't have any "culture" that requires me to do stupid sh!t.

Except for being extremely Politically correct, perhaps ?

I will go to my grave fighting that one !

Maybe some... but no one has ever accused ME of being politically correct.
Quite the opposite.
