Orphanage assistance

thebajarunner - 3-10-2005 at 04:35 PM

Any late news (or thoughts) on a place that needs some help, and is worthy of the effort? (if you know what I mean.... clean, trying to improve, etc.)
JR sent me info on the place in Maneadero which Baja Vida and I will visit in a couple of weeks.
Our church in Modesto has had a 15+ year relationship with Santa Marta, my relationship with them goes back to their days at Colonio Guerrero.
Also, my 30+ year relationship at La Mision was productive but don't want to get embroiled in the "Diego situation."
For sure we will take in the place in Maneadero, but any others in the greater Ensenada (or further South) area would be helpful.

Thanks for the heads up.
I started visiting there in 1972 when Bill and Kaye Lawrence were in charge. They left, started Rancho Santa Marta in San Vicente and I have not been back to see the original place in many years.
It is worth a quick visit again, will be interesting to see after all these years, although it is a bit further South for my church than I would wish.
Interesting sidebar.... there was a very small orphanage run by a Mexican fellow across the river. After a massive flood in the late 1970's all these kids were brought across the river and turned over to the larger place on the South side.
I never heard that the little place North of the river ever reopened. I also visited there in the early 70's.

Hey, I was in such a hurry to tell my tale that I did not notice that this was your first post, ever...
Welcome, and keep the posts coming...
anyone who has visited orphanages in the San Quintin Valley needs to keep us informed of his/her experiences.

I had previously mentioned a place in El Zorillo, just south of Maneadero, in a previous thread:

I don't remember when I sent you the info but Agua Viva is now off the road to La Bufadora as soon as you turn at the sign. Let me know if you don't have those directions and I will send them to you.

JR
You sent the info to me about six months ago, must be accurate because I have passed it on to several and they have reported back a successful visit.
Hope to get there in a couple of weeks, also will check out the one that our leader just mentioned.
Thanks,

Baja Arriba!!
