BajaNomad

Short clip from the SS's

JZ - 9-11-2018 at 08:05 PM

Gives you an idea of what that part of the Baja ccoastline is like if you've never seen it before.

Never been there

John M - 9-11-2018 at 08:32 PM

one of these trips - maybe Nov.

StuckSucks - 9-12-2018 at 08:29 AM

Very nice (more would be better), thanks. Gotta be "fun" trailing behind a truck on your two stroke.

Spectacular country!

JZ,
Love your pics and vids....

I was thinking, however...."Geez, miles of clear roads and skies....and he is riding in the dust...."....and ya gotta four-stroke
it

ehall - 9-12-2018 at 09:53 AM

great scenery. The whole time I was trying to slow down to get out of the dust. haha

Yeah, 95% of the time we are running a couple miles ahead of the truck. Wanted to video it going down into that bay.

Some of the roads down near the ocean are damn steep.

My kid's KTM is a 4 stroke. We race up and down the beaches and I always win. ;D

I hate videos like this!!
Makes we wish for eating some of that good Baja dust
instead of the almond harvest dust that is choking us up here...

bajatrailrider - 9-13-2018 at 08:36 AM

Great flick JZ your a pro at it. After viewing it I'm loading the camp trailer heading up to Coyotes for three days riding. I would just rent a cabin but there sold out. ;)

Very jealous. Post some pics my friend.

JZ - 9-13-2018 at 11:49 PM

Just starting to go through all the footage from our last trip. Another very raw clip.

David K - 9-14-2018 at 08:22 AM

Looks like a fun place to camp, and sand, with a view! I love sand!
In 2007, we camped on the beach south of Punta Lobos. It has a large dune field next to it. That is when I got the close-ups of this lady:

[Edited on 9-14-2018 by David K]

JZ - 9-14-2018 at 08:36 AM

The sand is much looser than most places. Was riding about 25 mph straight up a hill and the bike sunk right into the sand and I went flying over the handlebars.

motoged - 9-14-2018 at 12:28 PM

Sand can be fun....OR NOT :o

Silt....??? Don't ask:

A 5mph tip-over in silt....looked down and foot was rotated 180' backwards....

A long story:

Very cool, except for the injuries.... On the list for next year! :bounce::bounce:

JZ - 9-14-2018 at 06:36 PM

Hey Motoged, please delete that my man. Time and place for everything. Let's not buzz kill this thread. Thx bud.

Not cool bro.

motoged - 9-15-2018 at 09:04 AM

JZ,
I am not pooping on your thread here....just adding some colour to what riding in Baja includes....not trying to be a buzz-kill for anyone.

I have posted several of my Baja moto trip stories on Nomads that I posted on AdvRider over the years.....way before you showed up here....and folks appreciated the pics, stories, and....yes....even the carnage.

You can revel in your glory here, but ya gotta share the sandbox with other "knuckledraggers"....

blackwolfmt - 9-17-2018 at 02:56 PM

WOW a dirt bike rider that's terrified of blood and broken bones..

JZ - 9-19-2018 at 12:08 AM

Still plowing through all our raw video. Riding into another bay.

Bubba - 9-19-2018 at 03:39 AM

Cools vids.

Skipjack Joe - 9-19-2018 at 07:29 AM

It looks like great country for corbina and halibut fishing.

Have to agree with JZ your post of injury not cool. Riding in slit 50 mph not smart or know better. Its like if I post a cool 4x4 truck and you post your trip to the ER . While your driving your rig reckless. With respect to another dirt biker I'm sure you learned your lessen. When I was a novice did same stupid thing in slit bed. Lucky no visit to the ER so I asked the old timer experts. What to do with slit THEY SAID GO AROUND IT DUMMY. HAAAA sorry for that hope to ride with you one day at a slow pace.:D

JZ - 9-20-2018 at 08:41 PM

A little different view.

bajadentist - 9-20-2018 at 11:47 PM

Hi JZ, would my front wheel drive 2006 highlander be able to get in and out of there? I have a buddy with a tundra and he said he never has to use 4wd on one of the ss roads.

David K - 9-21-2018 at 07:25 AM

Hola bajadentist (my dad was a dentist and introduced me to Baja), I invite you to read my 2017 trip report (TRIP #4): http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=86376

There is a 4WD section of the sisters and it is on the road between Los Morros and San José fish camp (Faro San José)... The other 2WD hazard would be silt (powdery dust beds) which are just north of Punta Canoas (not bad last year) and a big one north of Punta Cono, on the coast road... can be avoided using the inland choice.

JZ - 9-21-2018 at 11:46 AM

That map only shows the most Northern part of the SS's. The best spots start around San Jose and South from there.

It can be done with 2WD. Take the road just North of Catavina into San Jose.

Uuhhhh....it was 5 mph....and silt....

My hat is off to you for speeding in "slit"

David K - 9-21-2018 at 01:32 PM

I only posted the north sisters map as the question was about 4WD needs... and as I put on this map, it is in the north part. All of my 2018 maps are in the Nomad Road Conditions forum if you want to see the south Sisters map.

bajadentist - 9-21-2018 at 01:35 PM

Thanks david and jz. Ill.probably just stick to the one i have been to with the lighthouse. The fishermen can pull me out if i get stuck. Ive met them and they are friendly. In time i'll upgrade to a 4wd.

David K - 9-21-2018 at 02:30 PM

10-4, while there is an excellent 2WD graded dirt highway from Santa Rosalillita all the way north to the Punta Cono road, you only need to go a few feet off of it to get trapped by soft sand! The trick is to lower the air pressure (all 4 tires) way down (~10 psi) and any 2WD can get out without a lot of difficulty. Bring a good tire inflator!

JZ - 9-21-2018 at 06:35 PM

Here's what the drive/ride looks like once you get off the ocean a bit.

Cool pics, got some more you could post?

TMW - 9-21-2018 at 08:35 PM

There are lots of silt beds in the Punta Vibora area. That is why they cancelled that section of the Baja 1000 in 2003. Also lots of silt beds east of Bahia Blanco in the early sections of the road to Hwy 1.
