Can anybody point me in the right direction for the hike up Cerro El Coronel (above Gaviotas/PN)? I've seen many photos, and it looks like one can
hike up either from the comms tower east of El Coronel or from Rancho El Coronel to the west, but I've never done it.
Any info at all would be helpful. But directions to a safe-ish place to park would be nice too.
thanks,

I hope the answer comes for you. I have only driven by the base of it.

CERRO EL CORONEL (how the topo map spells it)
It really stood out as we did the 4x4 drive from Valle las Palmas to Cantamar, back in 2005... http://vivabaja.com/305/edevart - 10-26-2018 at 02:51 PM
Yes David, thanks for the spell-check. I corrected my original post. willardguy - 10-26-2018 at 03:35 PM
I made the hike last week and it was 10 times harder than I thought it would be.....it kicked this old mans azz to the point I considered giving
up!
before primo tapia going south cross over the bridge like you were going to pretty horses but instead go left thru the arches and follow the paved
road until you find yourself at a picnic area that alot of local families use on weekends.....this is the trailhead, parking is safe. fabulous view
and the downhill coming down is much welcomed.

Thanks Willard. EXACTLY the kind of info I was looking for. Sounds like maybe I should stop at Pretty Horses and get some four legged horse power to
the summit!willardguy - 10-26-2018 at 05:46 PM

Looks like a great hike! Is that up the hill from Jesus? What do you estimate the distance to the summit from the TH? I'm coming down 11/9-12,
might be a nice early morning hike.

Dk, you should write a hiking guide! Good exercise! Hikers got money and buy hiking guides!
Is you driving guide in the bookstores yet?David K - 10-26-2018 at 06:34 PM
Nomads will be the first to know if and when it is available for sale. John Harper - 10-26-2018 at 06:51 PM

Wow, 10-14 RT? I'm very impressed. It's not the Sierra at altitude, but that's a hike you should be damn proud of. Congratulations!
