Road to Campo Rene?

windgrrl - 10-27-2018 at 09:34 AM

Looking for latest road condition report.

Gracias,
W

Thanks David.

We drove it Nov. 2017 & Feb. 2018 towing an RV with no problems. That 2.5 km bit could be interesting.

Looking for post-Sergio update. Pictures I saw a few weeks ago looked like some significant repairs were needed due to wash-outs and flooding.

Best wishes,
W

You are correct to ask for current, post sergio updates. Old reports or conditions could just get you in trouble, If you are a Facebook user, I think I saw some pictures of washouts, flooded conditions on TalkBaja.

Thanks, Norte. I saw a few pics on FB from a few weeks ago...flooding surrounding road & road bed washouts looked gnarly. Also, one person commented that Campo Rene is okay.

DaliDali - 10-28-2018 at 09:35 AM

David's photos are old.....those potholes pictured have long since been repaired.

Post Sergio road in from MX 1 is fine...until about 3/4ths of the way in.
There is about a 100 yard stretch of broken pavement.
Easily doable by any vehicle.

The salt flat entrance into Campo Rene was mushy looking about two weeks ago.

The other entrance is fine...no mud.

The entire campground compound is fine....no mud.

Solar panel was not working..word is the controller crashed.
However, the generator was up and running to provide power.

Thank you, DaliDali. That’s exactly the information I need.

Best wishes,
W

Yes, according to Ralph and Blanca, they repaved the bad half later in 2017. However, someone recently mentioned the recent rains did a number on the highway again?

This is incorrect information from "someone"
I was along that very road on the 18th of this month....in and out.
As I mentioned to the windgirl, there is one 100 yard (approx)stretch that has broken pavement, due to a rain filled arroyo flowing over the roadbed.

The stretch from Campo Fisher (MX 1 intersection) is full speed ahead with no storm damage. Until that rough stretch is encountered.

And full speed ahead from the rough patch, to the turn off to Campo Rene.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone posted about road conditions in the road conditions forum (or trip report forum) after their trips... without being asked?

No it wouldn't .
Some things, like a persons travels, dont' always need to be shared, unless that person wishes to share.

Dali, what would be good about Nomad if nobody posted about Baja travel in it? I clearly said my idea about sharing was about road conditions and not all trip details.

Those who like surprises or don't want information really aren't going to be served well on the Internet.

When a person has a Q of something I have recent personal knowledge of......they often get an answer.

Key is recent personal knowledge.

the question should be, Why do some people feel it is necessary to post old/outdated info in answer to a question unless they had an agenda or an extreme need for attention.

BajaBlanca - 10-28-2018 at 10:09 PM

I am pretty sure I posted a trip report to san Ignacio/santa rosalia recently and said the road is in great condition. If I didn't, I meant to.

There are no big potholes, even after the hurricane and the parts that were washed away were fixed pronto so that traffic could get thru!

David, I agree that outdated info on a road condition is really NOT a good idea! Potholes change almost monthly on that road. Right now, they are pretty much non- existent. Because the road is so used, that could change in December.

I haven't been to campo rene in forever so DaliDali has the most current info on mud etc.

MMc - 10-29-2018 at 07:49 AM

I was on it last week. the road from 1 to town and the trun-off to camp was washed out up was been repaired with dirt and is passable. The road at the second sign coming from the hwy is good. The blue sign ( 1st as coming in) First turn off road was drying out.

Agreed. Please DK try to refrain from posting outdated info when people are clearly asking for current info. It does absolutely nothing except bog down the thread, and could actually get someone in trouble. I know that is not your intention, but I (and I think many others here) believe Norte hit the nail on the head . . .

chuckie - 10-29-2018 at 02:47 PM

Worst part of DK's posts are the excuses that follow....takes up space contributes nada

David K - 10-29-2018 at 03:44 PM

One year old is not old for Baja, or anywhere...

Worse than my needing to explain the obvious is the need for some here to post comments about my replies.

Since Windgrrl (that's the O.P., original poster) saw the photos, I will take them off... so old, from way back in the year 2017!!!

BajaBlanca - 10-29-2018 at 03:49 PM

Thanks for removing the photos etc. DK! Always such a great plus but on this particular thread, not so.

David K - 10-29-2018 at 03:56 PM

Is Campo Rene so different looking now than last year? Please post new photos so I can see all the radical changes.

bajabuddha - 10-29-2018 at 04:19 PM

*SIGH* Chuckie, you weren't off the mark one bit. Sooo predictable.

You would have been golden on all the photos, if you had left out the pothole road pic.

And FWIW......no one said anything about RADICAL changes ok?
