From Chula Vista to Tijuana.

What's the best way to cross from Chula Vista to Tijuana. I have an Overhead camper that we will be parking in Chula Vista and cross by foot for a day into Tijuana. What is the easiest process to accomplish a day trip. I have read before about a train or something like that. Thanks.

No train - a trolley. You can park in a Chula Vista trolley parking lot, take the trolley to the border - follow the signs at the end of the line into TJ (across the street, next to McDonalds). Trolley stop locations (if you want to get a little closer to the border) are identified online. The walk-across path into TJ goes through the immigration office. You will be stopping at the counter to get a no-cost FMM, so bring passport or birth certificate. When you return into the US, you will also need passport or birth certificate or similar approved document.

so are you saying you can get the free FMM with a birth certificate when waking in?

Nope - Need a passport or passport card to get the Mexican FMM

Passport, passport card or a birth certificate to re-enter the US

The last couple yrs., I understand the parking lots at the
SY border area have been increased to $20-$25, so the idea
of taking the trolley from the first stop no. of the border
makes sense if one wants to save a bit of $. Why does the
needing a Passport to return myth continue to be mentioned?
Although, as posted, one needs a Passport/Passport card to
enter as a pedestrian
