Loreto to TJ Hwy 1

Just got home from a Baja trip down to Loreto.
We drove from Loreto up to Jardines and the next day to Otay Mesa border.

Left Loreto in the morning and very little traffic going north. Stopped at the Loreto Military stop, 5min quick search of the truck and off we went, they were very polite and no issues.
San Ignacio Military stop was no big deal, didn't even get out of the truck this time. He just asked normal questions and then off we went.
The Catavina washouts north/south of town are still there but have been cleaned up and are dirt but nice.

As a whole the road north and south of Catavina is very nice, there are some rough spots and some potholes but not bad.

At KM103 south of El Rosario there was a Military Check. Looks like they just set up for a few hours or so. The guy spoke perfect english, just looked in the car and waved us on.

South of El Rosario we ran into some deeper potholes, most likely due to the rain from the recent hurricanes, since we didn't see much last month the day after the hurricane...who knows...

Fog early morning leaving San Quintin but gone once we got out of the valley

The Road construction south of Santo Tomas is a major project. I guess no work on Sundays, we were lucky, no delays. They have a lot going on making the drive down the grade a bit more hairy than normal. I'd think it will be some time before its done but when it is the drive will be so much safer and faster, straightening out a lot of the curves south of the pass as well.

Overall the road is in very good condition

We came north the day before you... Left La Paz Friday morning, 1 night at Guerrero Negro, and up to TJ on Saturday.

We had the same perfect English speaking checkpoint guy south of El Rosario as well. Looked like it was just a makeshift check point.

South of Santo Tomas, we were stopped for about 30 minutes. There were even street vendors while you waited. Then the military check point traffic added another 30 minutes.

We took the 5 down 2 weeks ago, and it was in horrible condition, but I would have preferred to just take it back regardless. The 1 from El Rosario to TJ was busy with lots of traffic and semi trucks. I'd prefer bad roads and less cars! : )
