I am not there right now, and have not heard from my family yet!

AKgringo - 11-30-2018 at 11:59 AM

Just heard from one of my sons on his way to get his kids at school. They rode it out without damage, but there is lots of damage to roads, the power and phone systems, and who knows what else at this point!

Glad they are all OK!!

Praying for the best outcome... I hope all is well for your family and friends AKgringo!

Anchorage international airport is closed! For a relatively small population base, the city has one of the busiest airports in the world!

It is an air crossroad between Asia, Europe, and North America. As I am writing this, there are jets in the air wondering where they are going to land!

Is there an air force base nearby?

AKgringo - 11-30-2018 at 01:05 PM

Elmendorf air base is even closer to the epicenter than Anchorage International. There are other long airstrips scattered around Alaska, but none are set up to support the air traffic that passes through there!

Thoughts and prayers to all involved.

Hope all the Kilchers from “Alaska the Last Frontier” are Ok. They live just outside of Homer.

fairbanks is the normal alternate for anchorage when Elmendorf airforce base has the same crap weather as anc.
