BajaNomad

I see a Nomad pattern

4x4abc - 12-6-2018 at 01:45 PM

anything factual on this board, whether it is a map by David or a post about "Two thirds of whatever" is mainly answered by members who want to talk about themselves and get personal with others. The topic? Disappears rapidly in the quicksand of old men emotions.

55steve - 12-6-2018 at 02:16 PM

DouglasP - 12-6-2018 at 03:42 PM

It is getting out of hand. It will be the demise of the board.

My take, there is a sub forum here for the politics, religion and other emotional talk. That kind of talk should be confined to that forum. If it's brought into the other sub forums, then the rule breaker should be banned for a period of time.
It will keep the open forums friendly and on track. While also giving a place to go talk about the volatile subjects, past and present. But the folks who choose to wander in will know what they are in for. I would probably be seen in there from time to time.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

DaliDali - 12-6-2018 at 03:56 PM

There are a couple of radicals on here who foment about jackbooted thugs, bigots and haters from time to time....
And if you disagree with them and call them out, out comes the "bigot, hater, right wing loon, and a fan of some dude named Alex Jones.

No big deal...IMO….radicals will be radicals and it does pass the time and ease up on taco stands, dirt roads, surf spots and what air pressure to use as the topic de jour.

Sooner, rather than later, they all fall off the bottom of the page and it begins anew......ad infinitum.

chuckie - 12-6-2018 at 04:03 PM

YUP! I imagine I am one of the contributors to the insanity, but most of the reality has gone from this board anyhow. Its a shame, used to be a place where folks shared knowledge and helpful experiences...Hard to take very seriously any more....

Pacifico - 12-6-2018 at 05:43 PM

I agree, Harald... Why don't we ALL hit the reset button and stop the BS? Keep the board about Baja and keep the politics in off topic. If someone deviates and chooses to bring in political BS, they should be banned to off topic only by Doug. :light::?:

JoeJustJoe - 12-6-2018 at 06:42 PM

Forums have always been a place where some members use it to talk/brag about themselves, and I usually write it off to low self esteem.

There have always been forums where some members come to debate and fight over anything even the color of the sky.

There are others who take exception to other board members opinions, and actually demand that their posts be deleted and them banned. They just love censorship, until their own posts are pulled.

We also have a few blowhards, to use this site to push right-wing politics, harsh immigration polices, and seem to scream.........FOLLOW THE RULES! THE RULES THE RULES THE RULES.......

It seems they missed their calling to be a traffic cop, or school hall monitor.

What this site is sadly missing is a wide variety of people of different ages, race, ethnicity, political views, and even sexual orientation.

So what you get is a majority of older white male Americans, and because they are older, they tend to be conservative, and they think they could run roughshod over those who don't share their right-wing views.

I think since a few more controversial posts have been allowed, this site has come more alive that it has been for quite some time.

Face it, threads like the "Turtle Soups" threads have always been the most interesting here by far, and the boring threads are when everybody is singing kumbaya and agreeing with each other.

DouglasP - 12-6-2018 at 07:05 PM

And down the rabbit hole we go

advrider - 12-6-2018 at 07:25 PM

It would be nice not to have to waste time filtering out the crap to get the useful information! I haven't been on here long but sure have gained a lot of Baja information. I think there are plenty of other areas where one can go to argue politics and other crap!

Then there are the posts by people who never actually go to Mexico, but insist on telling us how it IS in Mexico.

The extreme left and the extreme right are occupied by people who never actually get out and experience life, where those of us in the middle dare to go. We actually seek out face-to-face experiences with strangers in foreign countries.

We of the middle ground are tolerant people.........but not with the fringe that tolerate very little. They threaten our freedoms. Fortunately, they are too afraid to experience actual life experiences because of the overhyped fears that their brethren warn them about, online, so they stay safely in their cyber cocoons.

Unfortunately, a metamorphosis never comes. And the rest of us suffer, because they somehow get the ear of the extreme politicians on both fringes, too. Fortunately, we rarely see them down here.

May they wallow in their ignorant, limited circles of actual life experiences forever...........and may the middle ground retake the high ground once again.

I always get a huge kick out of people who want their forums to be echo chambers of like minded people sitting around spouting confirmation Biases, while condemning anyone who thinks different.

and then, it gets really hillarious when those danged infidels do something so nefarious as bringing actiual data and fact and logic into the forum that blows up the inner clubs bias agenda!

you don't like what people write, don't read it. You want to engage them in civil debate - have at it, you want to throw a fit and call your mommie - be my guest!

You clap at me - I'll clap back, I will challenge your assumptions and point out where history and fact have proven you wrong. deal with it, or go curl up in the corner in the fetal position cry for your mom, and demand someone "censor" all the people here who have the temerity to expose your personal biases as just that - nothing but uninformed opinions, lacking fact , and totally devoid of any critical thought process!

It's quite simple. There is a time and place for everything.
I like a good debate as much as the next person.
Not every thread has to turn into a political circus.
Go look at the "raining cats and dogs thread". Not the place, but it doesn't stop the nincompoops from trashing the thread.
I'm not advocating for censorship. Just a little forced decorum.

Make a place for the debates to rage on. Keep the rest of the site free from the incoherent bickering.

Don't password it, so it shows up in "today's posts". Call it the "dungeon" or the "basement" or the "dive bar"or.............wait for it..............

Pretty simple rules but not followed nor enforced:

http://forums.bajanomad.com/faq.php?page=forumrules

Board Rules
Summary: Please use common sense.

Authorized Use Policy:

1. Topics within the BajaNomad.com forums will pertain the Baja California, Mexico peninsula.
2. Topics should be posted in the forum most applicable to the subject of the posting. Advertising is only allowed in the Classifieds section.
3. No accessing the site via the use of Proxy IPs.

But maybe the problem is the inability to read and comprehend? Maybe is just the spoiled nature of individuals always wanting their way and their inability to follow rules! ;)

Sigh, if only. For folks like me, who love Baja and are always happy to follow the current situations regarding roads and travels, this forum is a bit taxing.

I follow several different forums for different topics and none have this situation with folks posting stuff that makes me cringe. I sometimes wonder if the forum owner looses money because of lower traffic because a lot of us hesitate before logging on. Of maybe they think that the questionable comments increase traffic. I just wish it was more Baja and less other stuff.

[Edited on 12-9-2018 by JoeJustJoe]

If this were to happen......what would you have to say?

Sports fishermen are killers and cruel, moto riders drag their knuckles, Coco has a fetish, never been below TJ in years, no idea about road conditions, washed out arroyos, potholes, mile markers, accommodations, dogs allowed or not, checkpoint soldiers, items for sale, rentals for offer, sand dollars, kelp beds, Krocodile lures, panga recommendations, diesel in BOLA, never asked a Q, never asked for a ride share, nothing in fishing and hunting, nothing in off-roading, nothing in home building, nothing about old missions, nothing in recipes, nothing in historic interests, nothing in Spanish language, nothing in camping nor any comments about whale watching, hiking, diving, golfing or boating.

Nearly everyone of your comments has to do with EXACTLY what your asking to be deleted.

And a slam of Douglas P, a newbie, for wanting to tell the boss of this site, the EXACT same thing your wanting to....delete posts that you don't like.

pfff

[Edited on 12-11-2018 by DaliDali]

JoeJustJoe - 12-11-2018 at 12:05 PM

Wrong again DaliDali, I never said sports fishermen are killers, I said, I don't get off killing innocent animals, including fish for sport. I never said moto riders drag their knuckles, that's somebody else. However, I think recently moto riders, and Baja 1000 types posts, have dominated this forum, when I know Mexico or Baja tourism, and those types of hobbyist activities on dirt roads are way down the list of American tourists do in Mexico.

You got me there DaliDali, I don't know all about the washed out arroyos, and potholes. :o

I have made the trip from the border to Cabo, once many years ago, when my kids were young. I enjoyed it, but once is enough, now I fly all over Mexico, especially Cabo, and I stay in four and five star hotels. However, when I'm not flying into Mexico, I do stay mostly in Tijuana, and Rosarito, and if I drive, I never get a stupid FMM, because nobody cares if you have one or not in the border towns.

Coco, does have a panty fetish, and I think it's disgusting if middle aged women, go to Coco's and give him their panties, especially if the panties are dirty. That said, if the young girls, are taking off their panties in the bars in TJ, I enjoy seeing that.

Regarding Kelp beds, and ocean activity. I enjoy scuba diving Belize, not in Mexico.

Why should I ask about ride share? I'm not scared to travel in my own car or SUV. I think it's pretty stupid to go in a caravan in Mexico, because you fear Mexico. Mexico is not the wild wild west, and Mexicans are not Indians, with bows and arrows, where you need to circle the wagons.

Fishing and Hunting? You already know my position, I don't get off killing innocent animals, but that's just me.

Home building, I'm very interested in Real Estate, and I often post in real estate topics. One of the biggest threads here, was an epic real estate, battle that I covered. You need to go back and search all my posts, to see where I posted and the subjects I covered.

Douglas P, is a newbie, and he is always telling the owner here how to run this site.

Next I will cover you DaliDali, when I have time.

[Edited on 12-11-2018 by JoeJustJoe]

DouglasP - 12-11-2018 at 01:19 PM

You seem to be overly concerned with me JoJo.

Might be new here, but not new to the world of forums, for whatever that's worth.

To reiterate my point, I am not looking to shut down debate and sharing ideas. I am suggesting (not telling, suggesting) that there is a time and place for everything.

Jumping in to the middle of a thread about rain and bringing up the caravan'd migrants is just not helpful, as an example. Stuff like that, IMHO, has hurt this site and probably chased away more than a few newbies. I have witnessed it on many other sites. I have also witnessed that when there are thoughtful rules that are enforced that forums flourish.

It seems, given the traffic and multiple threads started about this subject that my concern is not exclusive to me. More than one Nomad has chimed in and shared that the bitter, bickering nature found here is not the normal forum experience.

I can share a link with you to a motorcycle road racing forum I go to. There is a general sub forum that covers all kinds of topics as long as they are not religious or political in nature. Then there is another sub forum that is called the dungeon. The political and religious debates run wild in there. Probably 50/50 on the right/left leaning. Quite entertaining and informative. It's not for the faint of heart. Not a slam at you JoJo, but I really don't think you could survive in there. There are some smart dudes. Heck, here's a link. You can go lurk if you wish.

http://forums.13x.com/index.php

And just for fun, here's a shot of me from my glory days from a few years back. Yes, if you look close there are scuff marks and a cracked tail section. Sometimes you throw them down the road!
Also, I am glad to see you've cleaned up your use of commas a bit. I would like to think I had a little to do with that. :P

JoeJustJoe - 12-12-2018 at 09:09 AM

I edited out the other stuff I wrote and just left this and will ask.

Where is the outrage over negatively stereotyping Mexicans, Hispanics, and immigrants?

__________
DaliDali's last few posts regarding this subject, I'm sure if I search more I could find a lot more negative stereotyping of Mexicans, as criminals, poor dirt farmers, or having other menial jobs, while eating only beans.
----

Visa overstays are not typically the poor dirt farmer looking to pick lettuce. Nor are they the drug smuggler, human smuggler and child exploiters. Poor dirt farmer often pays a coyote thousands$$ to lead them north."

" The poor family in the interior of Sonora pays 16% for that sack of beans, corn tortillas and some cooking oil, while the "deep pockets" along the border get a break at 8%
