#4 is el comandante loco, yes? Lol.

TMW - 12-31-2018 at 05:45 PM

Yes that is Senor Rudy standing on a space ship.

No not El Barril, much further south along the coast.

CJ - 1-1-2019 at 04:42 PM

Timbabichi

Here is El Barril:

TMW - 1-1-2019 at 08:29 PM

Correct, it is the hacienda at Timbabichi or what's left of it. Built from the sale of a greenish pearl found in the waters there.

The history of Timbabichi. Note in the document it is spelled with an e.

Yes and no, it is looking down at Agua Verde but from the back road coming from Constitucion. When this picture was taken the dirt road down was wiped out from a hurricane and was not passable, we had to turn around.

David K - 1-2-2019 at 10:23 AM

So we still need to know where the chapel is and the flying saucer that Rudy is on top of, yes?

It looks like an onyx dome or some kind of ancient hot spring formation perhaps?

BajaOkie - 1-2-2019 at 11:11 AM

Is Pic. #1 La Prosperidad?

TMW - 1-2-2019 at 11:20 AM

No it's Timbabichi, near the coast east of Constitucion.

TMW - 1-2-2019 at 11:22 AM

DK, I'm not positive but I think it is volcanic ash.

David K - 1-2-2019 at 11:35 AM

Hi Kevin, yesterday CJ answered it and TW confirmed, it is the building at Timbabichi.

The arched doorway used is a similar style to the French El Boleo mine ranch houses at La Prosperidad and San Miguel (south of El Barril).

It has the characteristic look of an onyx dome or some other mineral spring deposit (white calcite), harder than the volcanic soil that once covered it and is now eroded away, leaving the dome behind.

Where is GeoRock when you need her? LOL!

TMW - 1-2-2019 at 03:41 PM

David I really don't know. It was about 5 years ago when I took the picture. If no one guesses it I'll tell you where it is and maybe we can figure out what it is made of. We were driving by and it looked like a space ship so we went over to it.

David K - 1-2-2019 at 04:30 PM

As I recall, after we searched for the Lost Mission of Santa Ysabel, in Arroyo el Volcan, you didn't join us (BajaCat & El Vergel) to look at the geyser and onyx dome, the morning we left camp?

José (BAJACAT) on top of the onyx dome of El Volcan.

Here is the current geyser at El Volcan, that will someday become an onyx dome as well...

Number 2 is on the road about half way to Timbabichi. Not sure why they painted the tree trunk blue like the shrine. The tree trunk had a nail in it and sap was oozing out as if it was crying.

Number 4 is on the south side of the road to Laguna San Ignacio. As I recall it was only a couple of miles toward San Ignacio.

Sorry I missed looking for that flying saucer when I was in the area! I see a need for a map to Baja's unusual and interesting geologic sites!

TMW - 2-14-2019 at 03:26 PM

I know where that is, think #5.

David K - 3-4-2019 at 12:16 PM

How about some more input???

Here is one: Where is this road going to?

TMW - 3-4-2019 at 01:06 PM

The cactus make me think it's the road to Puerto Catarina.

David K - 3-4-2019 at 01:11 PM

Nope.. but good guess... late afternoon photo with the sun behind me.

Correct cactus for the region (Baja norte)!

gueribo - 3-4-2019 at 01:16 PM

Looks like the road to San Borja.

David K - 3-4-2019 at 01:16 PM

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Yes, gueribo was also correct, but you guys know I like details and there are two different roads to the mission, each just over 21 miles long.

Where am I?

David K - 3-7-2019 at 11:51 AM

AKgringo - 3-7-2019 at 11:57 AM

My guess is near Calamajue!

TMW - 3-7-2019 at 02:02 PM

Your at the mission site.

David K - 3-7-2019 at 02:58 PM

AK, not just near it but standing on the site... The rectangular form in the soil that I am at the corner of, is the mission (church)...
The rectangle is building #1 in this sketch from Ed Vernon's book:

All other names with Calamajué in it are named after this mission (operating from Oct 1766-May 1767) which was the first site for the mission that would become known as Santa María after it was relocated. The year-round flowing stream below has water too poisonous to grow crops, they would discover. When the location was visited earlier in 1766, heavy rains had diluted the mineral water enough so that it seemed fine.

More on the location in this article: https://www.bajabound.com/bajaadventures/bajatravel/calamaju...
