Night watchman killed in Todos Santos

pauldavidmena - 2-2-2019 at 03:25 PM

Just read on the "Todos Santos Newsfeed" Facebook page that a night watchman for Restaurante La Casita was killed on Thursday night by robbers looking to steal a TV. So far the only article I've read to corroborate the story is this one. It's a bit sobering, especially since we'll be coming to visit in just a few short days, but also a reminder to be vigilant at all times.

A life for a TV? and how violent to tie him up.

How sad is that. How scary is that.

RIP

Doubt you'll be working nightshift at La Casita. Should have nothing to worry about.

Vigilent at all times? Yes, and have fun, too.

I should have included a rim of salt on my margarita. I don't feel any less safe than I did before hearing the news, but it does get me thinking: was he the guy who unlocked my car from the Cafelix parking lot when I was out late a few years back? DEP

Missed that story about a car. What happened?

Something to be aware of where ever you're staying down here. The hills have eyes. Assuming you have a rental car, they are easily broken into. If no one is at home, thief's will know that and (might) break in. Keep valuables well hidden or on you. Have fun.

I worded that badly. My wife and I had dinner at Cafelix one night before seeing a show at Hotel California. When we went back to fetch our car, the gate to the parking lot was locked. After I shook the gate in frustration a few times, a night guardsman came to us with the keys and unlocked the gate. He was our hero for the evening, so I hope it wasn't he who caught the bad end of that exchange.

We've been here quite a few times and have learned the balance between heightened awareness and wild abandon. We've been wise, and we've been lucky. I guess that's why we keep coming back.
