Gonzaga Bay to Puertecitos

MexicoTed - 2-8-2019 at 11:40 PM

Here is the second half of the road condition report while driving the Baja XL race on February 2nd. From KM 121 to 80 (heading south to north) there are many detours, wash outs and badly damaged bridges. Can't see these fixed for 6 months to a year especially the big, long bridge in the photo.

On top of this it was getting dark and I was unable to take images of Puertecitos to San Felipe, but that road was the worst I've seen in many, many years. However, it did appear they were ready to repair a lot of it.

Remember this is south to north views in most images.

Excellent report, thanks for posting! I guess I was overly optimistic that the recent damage would be repaired in time for my April trip. At least I know what to expect now.

Must have been huge volumes of water in the October 1, 2018 storm!

basautter, the detours are like any others on Mexican highways and are passable to nearly all vehicles including semi-tractor trailers. Given a choice, maybe only the largest motorhomes/trailers should still avoid?

The detours are no problem, just takes a little more time.
Enjoy the views.

Who ever designed and built that road and bridges should be put up against a wall and shot

No way it's fixed by summer, maybe not before the next string of storms in the fall. The bridge designs are flawed just as they have been for decades.

Heading down from Mexicali to Papa Fernandez' at the end of June. Bringing a 30'boat and wanted to know as long as I take it slow, any issues getting there?
Thanks

Just in case you missed it, here is a post from earlier today; http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=92412&got...

It covers your route, and then some!

Thanks....I saw that and forgot where that post was.

Just haven't taken a boat that direction and want to make sure all is ok.
