hey guys, I am Floridian who just moved out here to Loreto. I have been fishing from shore with some some 1/4 - 1/2 oz spoons, I been fishing the surf
and closer to shore in the wash, similar to how I would fish the beaches back home.
I have been trying to fish the beaches out front of Hotel Oasis, Hotel Desert Inn, and Loreto Shores RV park around sunset but have not had any luck.
Think I may need to try and track down a kayak to get deeper out!
Any advice? What are you guys using for lures/bait out here? Would love to meet up and fish with someone who knows what they are doing! Ill bring the
beers!

Kayak makes a huge difference on the cortez side. I am not sure there is enough wave action to use the same techniques that you use on florida
beaches.
I like at least a one ounce spoon. I wonder if there are any shore fishing guides in loreto.

Nearly every fish that lives in the Sea is structure oriented.
Rocks, pinnacles, flotsam, underwater debris or anything else that attracts and provides cover for the baitfish.
Now and again, trending to the again side, one will hook into a small roosterfish or a small jack crevalle from the beaches.
Go south to the Loreto Bay area....where the rocky points start.
Access is tough there.
The NE corner of the harbor breakwater is a good as place as any to chuck a Kroc. If Mexican locals are there, they are catching something. Mostly
small (8"-10") roosterfish.
Straight out from the mouth of the arroyo is where all the trop storm debris ends up.....good cover for bait. But you can't cast that far, even with a
world record casting outfit.
Buy, rent, or borrow a kayak.
Or practice your casts out into the barren sand.

This and try some Krocodiles/Kastmasters in 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz. Just keep trying different lures/baits and asking questions. You will eventually get it

Croc's a must have. Last time I checked, even Kayaks need permits in most of the Loreto area. This, told to me by my cousin who lives in Loreto Bay

All previous advise is good. Also try a chunk of fish or a minnow with a sinker for bottom fishing. I use a bottom rig with two hooks about one and
two feet above the sinker. Light line to the sinker allows breakage in case of a snag. Always works for me in a pinch. Good luck!MMc - 2-21-2019 at 01:47 PM
Go to the breakwater just before grey light. Cast out using a Croc. or Kastmaster. 15 min after the sun comes up the bit is off. I picked up a
yellowtail (small) off the far end one time.
