When will whale tours close down this year?

My kids are driving to La Paz end of March
Shari, are you still going to be doing tours at Scammons end of month?
Any one hearing when San Ignacio and Mag Bay are shutting down?

When the whales are gone of course!

A month ago, Shari said the whales were running a month late this year.

Whether this means they will be staying a month longer into April is up to conjecture, or better yet, for Shari to comment on.

If their birthing is delayed a month, I would assume the time needed for the calves to grow strong enough for the return to the Arctic would demand a longer time in the lagoon.

Shari's Whale Camp out by the Pacific stands the best chance for the Magic to happen.

A month ago, there was not another guide boat in sight. We them them all to ourselves.

Another plus was we had the opportunity to boat out through the mouth to the Pacific where inside of the shallow whitewater shoals the whales tend to spy hop. We saw many whales doing just that in the area.

When we came back in just off beach from the whale camp, we had a pair of moms and their calves that kept coming back for more love for over an hour. We would have stayed longer, but an approaching thunderstorm demanded we head back to camp.

Due to the cloudy overcast skies, most of the whales eyes were open that day.

It was magical.

Thanks to Shari and Judith, our whale camp resident expert, for making this an experience for the ages.

Next year? Absolutely.

Our favorite time to go is last week of March at San Ignacio. April 30th is when the season ends there according to the interwebs. :saint:

Thanks Matt,
Very helpful to know that end of March is still prime time at San Ignacio
(Which happens to be my favorite of the three)
I will pass this on to my son and see what works for them
Scammons is probably a bit more accessible but San Ignacio is not that bad since they have improved the roads considerably.

April 15 for Laguna San Ignacio and Ojo de Liebre.

April 30 for Puerto Adolfo López Mateos, Puerto San Carlos, Puerto Chale in Bahía Magdalena, Bahía Santa María & Isla Magdalena.

May 30 for Loreto Bay Natl. Park.
