Scouting trip

fishbuck - 3-5-2019 at 07:38 PM

I finally have enough stuff done so I can make a quick trip to San Quintin.
I had a full on Orange County ratrace overload and panic attack.
I almost jumped in my truck and started driving last night.
Then I remembered my laundry... and a dental apt on Friday.
So I am thinking Saturday morning.
Best border crossing time on Sat.
How about 10am?
I know there are a few construction areas.
Would someone who goes thru this week let me know the road conditions.
Probably 4-5 days.
Take a quick look and then back home and close down my apt and prepare to move on April 1
Spending my 60th Birthday at my camp... and all the birthdays I've got left.
I planning on like another 60 or so:cool:

Doug may move to the Q&A forum?

Can't I ask questions here to get warmed up a little...

You know I didn't have summers off and stuff.
I had a real fulltime career. 30 years+.

So please excuse me if I'm not as good at this as you.
Trust me... I'll get better at it.

That’s a fine time.

Road is fine. It does not change much week to week, month to month. Just go. Road condition is irrelevant. there is only one road. Just go. Life is like a box of chocolates, live dangerously

-1 days. Pretty quick trip, what’s the rush?

Get out of town and look at my house. Then home and pack and move there.
I could wait but my year here in Costa Mesa is up and I can't take another minute of it... it just ain't the same...
So scouting trip. Empty truck. Maybe do rental paperwork and stuff.

Jack Smith in God and Mr. Gomez wrote,

"Tijuana was no sooner behind us than I felt a pleasant weightlessness, as if the Baja Peninsula had been detached from the continent at the border and was drifitng away in this blue sky and silver sea just as the Spaniards had imagined. My burdens had been left behind on the mainland, and were receding out of sight, out of mind.
"I'd forgotten how good it feels," I said, "Once you get away from the border."
"Yes, I was thinking the same thing."

Much has changed in Baja since those words were put to paper.
But that feeling, that how good it feels, is as true today as it was then.

Go!

Just think, you are going to be the one telling us the road conditions!

Have a fun trip and welcome to Part 2 of your Life.

Earlier the better for driving through the construction zone past santo Tomas, especially on a Friday afternoon. Have all your current paperwork handy and ready as the cops have been stopping people a lot and checking. No problems if it’s all good and ready. Stop, check, go.

I don't recall ever seeing a prequel to a trip report before!
