Pemix in Puertecitos, abierto or cerrado??

AZ7000 - 3-29-2019 at 07:02 PM

We just drove from Gonzaga 8 days ago but have never stopped in Puertecitos other then the Cowpatty, even before the highway we never stopped. What is the Pemix situation? Is it open, variable, or mostly closed. I would consider the Gonzaga Pemix pretty reliable but have no idea about the Puertecitos station. We will be on motos in 3 weeks and may have a need for gas in 1 week.

Anyone with the story?

Thanks

hope that helped!

I have heard also today that it is never open... I'll try to lay eyes on it next week for the easter trip. Williard are you the other Nomad? Anyone physically see it open or get fuel recently?

Gas in Puertecitos?

Si or No?

I did not reply right away to your other thread, because my info is over four years old. I stopped there for a fill up once during their hours of operation, and there was no one around.

I was not sure of the status of the Gonzaga station at that time, and while I pondered my next move, someone showed up and opened the station.

Late lunch, siesta, or they were watching the station from somewhere nearby? I don't know, but if you are low on fuel, and they are closed, I would ask around.

Peemix...Stopped there in 1995. It was open but only had Nova.

I think you have to lean on your horn.

Now that the dust has settled,
AZ7000 remember the emergency standby
Many people in remote communities have side businesses selling gas and diesel at a marked up price. Ask locals, they know where to go.
Saved our butts more than once, hope that helps.

always had to chase Roman down to open the store, fortunately he was never far!:D

Remember, any station can run out mañana even when we Nomads buy gas today. The better question might be, are they in business still? From all reports seen, they both are. I last bought gas at Gonzaga in August 2018 and Puertecitos in March 2017.

I got gas in Puertecitos once, but Rolaids did the trick.

Was there Thursday. (3-29)
Was closed.
Not sure why.

Best answer yet. Can I find this in your trip report from years past.

I was there yesterday on my way home from two wonderful weeks in paradise, we stopped there not because we needed gas but looking for a restroom for the ladies, in the process I talked to a guy that was at the gas station and he told me that they are having problems with their government permit and had no idea when if ever they will be back in business.

Thanks so much Nando

WestyWanderer - 4-9-2019 at 04:23 PM

As nando mentioned, Clara is having issues navigating the new permit process under AMLO, apparently it changed when the new administration took over. I will check with my in-laws that live there on the latest new. Over the past year or so she has been pretty good about keeping it open. Stand by...

AZ7000 - 4-9-2019 at 05:55 PM

Could you see if your in-laws know of any gas, from a barrel even? We are riding dirt bikes to Catavina but the beach from SF to there definitely burns some gas, then we need to go over the mountain. We can carry jugs but would prefer not too.

Will be on Sat the 20th. Gracias

AZ7000, you planning on heading over on the rock trail south of Puertecitos? You might be able to buy gas out of barrels at Delicias, that’s around KM 36 south of SF. No one sells gas out of barrels in Puertecitos, however if you ask around town someone might sell you gas. However, gas has been tight around there for the last few weeks so it could be a long shot. I’m waiting to hear the latest news/rumor about the gas station, I’ll let you know.

WestyWanderer - 4-10-2019 at 07:33 AM

I spoke with the in-laws and the station in Puertocitos is currently open and has gas.

Just a warning, if you’re talking about April 20th, that is Easter weekend and every beach from Mexicali to Cabo is going to be crawling with vacationers. Easily one of the busiest weekends of the year for San Felipe and the south Campos

AZ7000 - 4-10-2019 at 01:49 PM

Yeah, getting the rooms was a bit of a challenge. Sort of why we are heading across the rock trail to Catavina for Saturday then to BOLA for sun night. Hoping to stay on more trails then roads this trip.

Thanks again Westy
