1) Arroyo north of Cataviña, answered by Archie.

2) Valle Chico, southwest of San Felipe:

3) Mission El Rosario (de Arriba), answered by Maderita.

4) La Bocana, west of El Rosario:

5) Rancho Matomi Oasis, answered by Maderita.

6) Valle Chico, southwest of San Felipe:

7) Diablo Mountain (10, 154') as seen from Valle Chico (Morelia Jcn.), answered by StuckSucks and PaulW.

8) East of El Rosario and north of Km. 103, between El Sauzalito copper mine and San Juan de Dios mission visita site:

Was number seven taken at or near Morelia Jct?

Daventec - 4-3-2019 at 01:31 PM

These are some amazing photos! Thanks for sharing them with us!

PaulW - 4-3-2019 at 02:28 PM

#5 Rancho Morelia.
#7 Morelia Junction looking west. Maybe a little further east than the junction?

Archie - 4-3-2019 at 02:53 PM

#1 the arroyo near the cave paintings N of Cataviña?

My pleasure... Looking forward to seeing yours!

Maderita - 4-3-2019 at 08:12 PM

#5. looks like it could be the eastside canyons of the southern Sierra de
Juárez. The white granite of the northerly canyons gives way to the darker rock, and some horizontal bands of rock on the ridge lines, maybe south of Cañón la Mora. Perhaps Cañón Palomar or Cañón Santa Isabel? Or the more obscure Cañón Alamar. Hmmm, my first guess is Palomar, second guess is Santa Isabel.

Maderita - 4-3-2019 at 08:19 PM

Oops, is that a cardón cactus sticking up in the center of the photo? Tiny in the photo, can't see for sure. Well if it is, amend my guess to the Sierra San Pedro Mártir eastside canyons. The geology and topography of the flat plateau appears more southerly; not the jagged granite of the nothern Sierra San Pedro Mártir. Maybe Arroyo Matomí area?
Ahh, your clue above, Rancho Matomí?

PaulW - 4-4-2019 at 07:02 AM

#5 must be El Cajon, but the summertime moss faked me. the Matomi was a bad guess because the pic has too much water

bajaric - 4-4-2019 at 08:48 AM

I am guessing the beach picture is of the Pacific ocean, in central Baja.

Bingo... yes, #5 is the oasis, waterfall-fed pool behind Rancho Matomi.

Paul, you asked if it was Rancho Morelia... but I knew you mis-typed (see my earlier reply to you).

Here's looking at the rock I was standing on for photo #5:

This was in March 2017.

Semi-abandoned Rancho Matomi.

Maderita - 4-4-2019 at 10:29 AM

#4 - Is it the beach to the south of Punta Canoas?

Maderita - 4-4-2019 at 11:02 AM

#3 - El Rosario mission.

Some more...

David K - 4-5-2019 at 04:12 PM

If you can't guess where then guess what (it is). Hint, after the first two... the rest are oriented from north to south and all in the southern state:

9) Sunrise at Shell Island, 20 miles south of San Felipe.

10) Sunset at Shell Island.

11) San Ignacio River (answered by GMann)

12)

13)

14) Between ranches La Presa and La Capilla (Mission Dolores Chillá/ La Pasión). Answered by TMW

15) San Evaristo. Answered by TMW

16)

17) Tropic of Cancer monument (near Santiago). Answered by bajarich.

I have a movie of us sliding down that moss slicked stream and into the pool Easter week, 1954. We were hiking up to climb Mt. Diablo with Bud Bernard. Great climb and great memories!

David K - 4-5-2019 at 05:30 PM

Matomi?

Vince - 4-5-2019 at 06:11 PM

Yes, I think so. I never knew the name, but it looks like that on your photo. I have it on YouTube, I can send it to you by email and give you the number coordinates so you don't have to go thru the whole video. I don't have your address.

GMann - 4-9-2019 at 11:50 AM

Number 11) is San Ignacio

GMann - 4-9-2019 at 11:55 AM

Perhaps 13) is Mulege? seeing as that is the next place to the South where there are large numbers of Date Palms....

TMW - 4-9-2019 at 02:40 PM

15 looks like San Evaristo.

Yes, the fishing village at San Evaristo, north from Bahía de la Paz.

14 is probably at La Pasion.

Very close... the exact answer is between La Presa and La Pasión/Mission Los Dolores Chillá (Rancho la Capilla today).

The aqueduct dates from well after the mission period and comes from the rancho period and feeds water (or did) to La Presa.

Some answers for the first group of photos and hints for the next:

David K - 4-10-2019 at 06:51 AM

Answers:
#4 La Bocana Beach, west of El Rosario.
#2 & #6 Valle Chico, southwest of San Felipe.
#8 (3 photos of boojums) The road between El Sauzalito copper mine and San Juan de Dios mission visita, east of El Rosario, north of Hwy. 1 (KM. 103).

The next group still has un-guessed locations.

HINTS:

#12, whales come here.

#13, it has an airstrip and a military camp, both closed when I drove by.

#16, the final location of a mission that began on a bay, 50 miles north.

#10 same as #7
#17 23°26'52.28"N, 109°42'12.11"W
#13 26°22'28.50"N, 112°30'47.84"W
#12 26°52'32.07"N, 113° 8'9.31"W

David K - 4-11-2019 at 06:05 AM

Well, while #10 and 7 are both looking at Diablo Mountain, they were taken over 30 miles apart. As for your other answers, do I really need to use Google Earth? LOL
Thank you for playing 😊

PaulW - 4-11-2019 at 06:10 AM

Yes #10 Is pretty close to the view from my casa roof.

bajarich - 4-11-2019 at 09:27 PM

#17 is the Tropic of Cancer monument on Highway 1.

Correct! The museum, with the line and globe, is just 3 kms. south of the Santiago entrance road.

I can't believe these three not guessed!
