Trump gives Mexico a 'one-year warning' to stop drugs, migrants or he will tax cars and close border

Lee - 4-4-2019 at 11:53 AM

Cadet Bone Spurs warms Mexico that they need to get their act together. Threatening to close the border created needless stress and drama diverting attention away from the unfulfilled campaign promise to have Mexico pay for a wall.

Saber rattling? Supporters love it, right?

JoeJustJoe - 4-4-2019 at 12:45 PM

It looks like Trump, caved again on his threats involving Mexico, immigration or the wall.

It's shocking so many Nomad members take Trump, seriously, and back that loser, when the rest of us yawn, including the President of Mexico, when Trump, is having a temper tantrum, and is issuing threats, because we know he will never follow through.

fishbuck - 4-4-2019 at 12:46 PM

Perhaps you have heard of Politics Joe?

fishbuck - 4-4-2019 at 01:50 PM

All the misery is on the other side of the US border.
These loser peasants create their own misery and are trying to spread their filth on the US side.
Even Jesus didn't try to end the misery.
He gave his life so that you could be free from sin.
Sin causes misery.
I try not to sin and I'm rich and happy.
Thank you Jesus for your blessing.
I pray for my brothers and sisters and that you relieve them from the misery and suffering.
There, fixed for you Jed.

Mr. Bill,
"Say What?"
Well, recognizing your appreciation for wordsmithing, I know you can say "Bloviate":

Dictionary
blo·vi·ate
/ˈblōvēˌāt/
verbinformal•US
verb: bloviate; 3rd person present: bloviates; past tense: bloviated; past participle: bloviated; gerund or present participle: bloviating

talk at length, especially in an inflated or empty way.

bloviate - Dictionary Definition : Vocabulary.com

To bloviate means to go on and on and on and on, usually in a pompous way. Can you hear the blow in the word bloviate? That's a clue that someone bloviating is blowing some serious hot air. When someone bloviates, he is speaking in an empty, pretentious, full-of-himself manner.

Mexico needs to up it's game. They've been privy to all the same technology as the rest of the world, yet they remain, not so good. So much corruption, money disappears as soon as it leaves the office. They need their feet held to the fire. I agree, they need to get to handle on just about everything. Trump is right.

mtgoat666 - 4-4-2019 at 05:03 PM

Trump threatened retaliation in 1 year
Will never happen
Trump will be impeached and in jail or exile before the year is up
Will trump flee to self-imposed exile in russia or north korea? His options are limited to countries w/o extradition agreements with usa.

whoa whoa boys! How about talking about some solutions?

How about not stopping aid ? And making it with some specific goals to alleviate the problems we are facing? NGOs could do some great work.
How about giving the asylum seekers a temp work permit with the caveat they must renew every few months and those that don't are deported? Those that renew and follow through with the process (which generally takes a few years) continue with the process?
How about hiring more hearing officers to expediate the process?
A wall will do NO good. Will cost muchisimo dinero and end up being total waste of OUR money.
Many asylum seekers are entering via THE BORDER a wall will do not do jack chite. Threats don't usually do so well either at convincing people to do anything.
we are supposed to be a civilzed country. Reading some of these posts makes me wonder if we have any civility left.
Mexico has problems, Central America has more problems ( I have been all over down there), we have problems, the world has problems.
Remember when someone said if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem?
So stop flinging your chite rhetoric, get off your butts and start thinking of some real ways to address this issue,
And anyone that does not like my ideas give me better ones

Pelosi, Chuck, and crew have made one big mistake from the beginning...they didn't study their #1 foe.
The years' postponement has pushed the Border debate right into the election cycle and Trump's hands. Another year of unleashed border crossings and the photo ops will be on Potus's side.
The failure of Congress to act (Dems house) will put the issue front and center.
Why burn it out now?
Let the name calling begin...

mxracer50 - 4-5-2019 at 05:54 AM

Mexico should control its southern border, and congress should get their act together and strengthen E Verify and put much stiffer penalties for employers that hire illegals.

The unemployment level is at historical lows and hirees are needed (what percentage relatively unskilled is not noted) but how do we pay for the necessary health care, education, subsidized nutrition of those new entrants let alone those who cannot join the workforce (children, disabled, unskilled, uneducated, etc)?
The employer won't hire if they have to pay for it...
That leaves You.

mtgoat666 - 4-5-2019 at 07:01 AM

I encourage more immigration, because it is humane, humanity annoys the white supremacists (i.e. GOP base) and immigrants vote liberal.

norte - 4-5-2019 at 07:14 AM

Telling Mexico to strengthen their southern border is like Mexico trying to tell us to strengthen our Northern border. I am sure the Trumpsters will take that kindly.

bajatrailrider - 4-5-2019 at 07:22 AM

You all are writing here for nothing. Mexico cannot ever control there problems. As long as drugs are in sold in the US. Mexico cannot control there own problems. Let alone please Trump sad but that's life.

azucena - 4-5-2019 at 07:23 AM

Whether you like it or not, our economy depends on migrant workers. Don't see too many white americans clamoring for jobs in the fields harveting lettuce etal.

If we don't hire migrant people, prices for basic goods and services will sky rocket. How about lettuce for $8.00 a head and $13.00 for a basket of strawberries? You will never stop companies and small businesses from hiring illegals. No big secret that if they didn't they could not stay in business.
We need to create solutions that are humane, make sense and vet those that are bad juju, ie gang members Salva Trucha etal. If we can spy by satellite, surely we can come up with an effective vetting system that does not punish good people and families who come here to work .

Time to start using our brains and responding, not reacting to rhetoric that changes daily. Emergency? No, no emergency. Shut down border now. No shut it down in a year. Brilliant.

azucena - 4-5-2019 at 07:29 AM

And, if we had a just and simple work program, employers would not have to hire illegals!

While Trump, and his base dream of a great beautiful wall, the democrats will be pushing important issues like health care. The issue of immigration is usually way down the list of important issues during elections, except for Trump and is base. I don't see how Trump, wins the election, without reaching out to others than his base?

Your statement is almost funny, both the democrats, republicans, and the Trump golf courses, really don't want to strengthen or even use E-Verify, because most big business don't want it......take the hint big business wants workers, they don't care about papers, and they don't care about the Trump base.

You talk about work programs, but what are immigrants going to get out of it?

Immigrants have families, and those families have and need roots.

If immigrants continue to come to the US, to work, there should also be a pathway to citizenship, for those workers who spend significant time working in the US, and want to stay here and raise their families.

I see ICE arrested 280 workers in Texas yesterday, but you never hear of the business owners themselves being arrested. Aren't both parties guilty of an illegal activity?

The employer by law has to fax or otherwise transmit proof of identification such as a drivers license, green card, and social security number for a new employee to both state and federal authority’s. The penalty’s for hiring illegals is quite stiff, and it is a mystery to me that any employer can get away without doing this.

SFandH - 4-5-2019 at 03:53 PM

Somewhere between 1 and 2 percent of the people in the United States have crossed the border illegally.

330 million people, 12 million undocumented. 12 / 330 * 100 = 3.63%

1/2 of the 12 million entered legally and overstayed their visas.

1/2 * 3.63 = 1.81% entered illegally.

It just doesn't sound like a big problem to me.

It's the only reason you have computer to type out your 3rd grade knowledge to everyone. Those policies are the only reason more people have been lifted out of poverty in the shortest time than in all of human history. Mexico's lack of those policies is why it's still 100 years behind. Yeah right, it's all about "white supremacy" policies that make America great. Hitler, if I recall was building a great Aryan White race, before that fell apart. Maybe Trump will be more successful.

Nobody has to call you a white supremacist Timinator, you pretty much admitted it yourself with your post. I do like your honesty and it explains why Trump so much time bashing immigrants and talking about the wall. He does it for his base that thinks exactly like you Timinator.

I would change Norte's statement above and say it would be like Mexico demanding that US do something about its insatiable appetite for illegal drugs.

That is not what he did.
He is not defending anything but the good old United States of America.
Our diversity is one of our strenghths. One of many.
No individual group can lay claim to our success as a nation.
But we are sucessful . And we will never apologize for that or allow any lesser nation try to shame us for it.
It won't work.
We are much stronger and much smarter than that.

Good Ol' fair and balanced "Fox news." I did see the video, but the video was short of detail, like exactly who was arrested, how did they know he was MS-13, and what happened to the family unit, or the kid, that was traveling with the alleged MS-13 gang member.

But lets say what "Fox News" was saying was accurate. So far there are not a lot of MS-13, members being detained from the caravans, and so far there have been zero Muslim terrorists caught traveling in the caravans, which Trump, claimed without evidence there were a lot of such criminals.

Hey Fishbuck, can you please control your bigoted statements against Mexicans, and other Hispanics. So far in the last couple of weeks, you have been going nuts on the racist posts.

In the last few of your posts regarding the wall topics you have called Latinos south of the border, primitive, poor, heathens, peasant kids, and you compared the caravan to a swarm of locusts.

In this thread you have called them loser peasants!

If you really feel this way about Mexicans, Fishbuck, why do you even spend time in Mexico?

And once again, you can see why Trump's spends so much time on immigration issues, it's because he knows what his base wants.

Fishbuck, I know you stand by your statement, where you called Latinos, south of the border, primitive, poor, heathens, locusts, and peasants.

If that's not bigotry, then it's negative stereotyping, and if you feel all or most Latinos, are like that, than it's simple white supremacy.

See with Trump, he making it easy for a good portion of of Americans, to say what they really feelings, and it's scapegoating people of color for many of the Trump's voters lot in life.

This is why only last year we have the march in Charlottesville, and Trump, refused to denounce the neo-N-zis, and in fact said, there were good people on both sides.

It also doesn't surprise me that the good people on "Baja Nomad" won't call you when you are bashing the hell out of Hispanics, south of the border, with the exception of myself, the Goat, and maybe a few select more members here.

WHY EL SALVADOR

This weekend, Gov. Gavin Newsom is headed to El Salvador for his first international trip to learn more about why so many migrants are flooding into the United States from Central America

Forget the trip to El Salvador, Newsom needs to focus on California’s problems

It looked like an early April Fools’ joke at first. But, no, it was just an ambitious rookie governor trying to play world leader.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced last week that he’ll be flying to El Salvador to learn “the root causes of migration  to the United States.

Does anyone in this hemisphere not know the root cause of why caravans of Central American refugees are seeking asylum in the U.S.? Newsom quickly answered his own question in the same prepared sentence in which he raised it: They’re “fleeing poverty and violence in their home countries.”

That has been a reason why humans have migrated for thousands of years. Escaping poverty and bullies — seeking opportunity and a better life — have have been root motivators forever.

So consider the governor’s “fact-finding mission” completed before he even boards the plane, right? Maybe he also could read a book and do a little Googling. That should wrap it up without spending nearly a week in dangerous El Salvador surrounded by California bodyguards

Purdyd - 4-6-2019 at 09:56 PM

Maybe my thinking is too simple on this but it seems to me that organization of american states should establish refugee camps for those seeking asylum in southern mexico and costa rica.

I don't think it does anybody any good to have people cross the entirety of mexico to step into the USA.

People seeking asylum should be processed through the camps and vetted and placed within the OAS. I would suggest some sort of combination of a lottery and merit based.

We would have to change laws but if they step across the border without processing they would be sent back.

Ultimately it would seem to there are economic and safety issues involved here.

Personally I would like to see more things made in the western hemisphere and less in the far east. I would expand on NAFTA to including the western hemisphere and maybe that means more tariffs on Chinese exports.

I would also like to see 10,000 more bajablanca's and more opportunities for education.

Ultimately safety and security has to be improved and probably one of the best things we could do is to cut off the sources for revenue for criminals.

I have to believe the legalizing marijuana in the western states has had a chilling affect on organized crimes bottom line. It should be legalized nationally.

And we need to cut down/eliminate the demand for illegal drugs in the United States.

Just some ideas.

Trump Directs State Dept. to End Aid to 3 Central American Countries

PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Trump said on Friday that there would be a “very good likelihood” that he would seal off the United States border with Mexico next week, even as he moved to punish Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador for migrant caravans by cutting off all foreign aid to the countries.

The moves escalated a sustained berating of countries he blames for being unable to stop the flow of migrants trying to make their way north.

“I will close the border if Mexico doesn’t get with it,” Mr. Trump said to reporters who had gathered at Mar-a-Lago, his winter retreat in Florida. “If Mexico doesn’t stop it."

In an exclusive interview, the Rio Grande Border Patrol chief tells Fox News that migrants recognize there are gaps in U.S. immigration policies.

Fishbuck wrote: " These loser peasants create their own misery and are trying to spread their filth on the US side.

Yea, you mean the Fox News who, for the last 3 years, has been the only media outlet telling you the truth. Now you think they're lying about gang members. You never cease to amaze.

JoeJustJoe - 4-7-2019 at 08:39 AM

Fishbuck, why do you even post this story?

Trump, has already backed down on his threats to close the border, and now he wants us to believe he will close the border one year from now?

I have to ask who really believes the compulsive lying blowhard Trump?

Do you really believe the Mexican President is shaking in his boots and worrying about Trump, closing the border one year from today?

Fishbuck, why do you have to monopolized this thread? Can you allow other opinions?

I for one would like to hear from David K. and if he agrees with your extreme negative opinions about Hispanics south of the border?

In fact, I would like to hear from other Nomad members besides David K, if they go along with both you Fishbuck, and Timinator. Don't be shy Nomad members, lets hear your opinions??????

Hi Joe,
I for one am able to not confuse nationality with race. Because people from different nations are often of a different race than the majority of Americans, it is a popular habit of the Left to call any policy having to with nationality as being 'racist'.

A border wall, fence, barrier, is a national defense structure to make sure citizens of other countries use our border crossings. It has NOTHING to do with what race they are.

It's not okay for anyone to just come to the U.S., uninvited. It has nothing to do with what they look like. It is the Left who are the racists, always focusing on skin color without realizing ANYONE of ANY RACE are able to be and already are AMERICANS.

The primary job of a president (and government) is to protect its CITIZENS from force or fraud. A visitor or immigrant to the U.S. must be vetted so no harm from crime or disease will happen to Americans.

That's a nice safe answer, David K. but you miss the gist of what I was asking. I wanted to know if you agree with some of the other white Americans, posting on this forum who are unapologetically openly advocating white supremacist polices, or engaging in extreme stereotyping of Hispanics south of the border that fits the description or bigoted or racist posts.

It's really a simple question, do you David K, denounce those kind of posts, or do you support and agree with those kind of posts?

This is not a question to just David K, but the other good members of "Baja Nomad?"

Now if you wonder why some of us liberals, call Trump, supporters racist. This is exactly the reasons we believe this when we see racist talk against dark-skinned Hispanics.

We also believe that Trump, is openly racist, because he has a history as a landlord, or illegally blocking blacks from moving into his properties, and he goes around calling predominately black countries, chithole countries, and he engages in negative stereotyping of Mexicans, and Central Americans, as criminals, gang members, or welfare recipients, while he himself, employees many undocumented immigrants at his businesses at the golf courses and hotels he owns.

Trump, even refused to denounce the neo-N-zis, in Charlottesville!

An interesting tidbit:

Trump issued 33,000 H2B work visas last summer and plans to issue 30,000 more in the coming months.

This from someone making wild threats to close the border. Most of the 33,000 were issued to folks from Central America.

This man spews rhetoric to fire y'all up but in the final scheme of things his policies are schizophrenic and fueled by his juvenile need for attention. He changes his tune on a moment by moment basis.
Is his instability what we need in a world with huge pressing issues? I think not.
We need someone who can think things through and come up with reasonable, workable policies.
Now Nielson is out. Can't even keep track of how many have come and gone. What private company would still be afloat with this kind of chaos?

Again, the media help unethical armchair psychiatrists target Trump and stigmatize mental illness.

At some point, one in five Americans experiences mental illness, ranging from mood disorders to psychoses. Yet fewer than half will obtain mental health services, leading to hundreds of billions of dollars of lost economic output each year, to say nothing of the human cost.

Sure, a shortage of healthcare services may be part of the problem, but stigma against mental illness plays a large role. This helps explain why it is so odious that armchair psychiatrists, from the professional class to the media, would make the stigma worse just to score a petty victory over President Trump.

So not only do you Fishbuck, join Trump, in bigoted negative stereotyping against Latino immigrants south of the border, but it appears you are joining Trump by telling whoppers!

So you can't remember if you voted for Obama or not, but you think you did, and you gave him great support?

Really do you expect us to believe you that you can't recall who you voted for?

If I recall the tea-party hated Obama with a passion, although they claimed be to bothered by the growing deficit, most of us beleive the tea-party hated Obama because the color of his skin. Notice the tea-party has no problem with Trump running up the deficit.

So if we liberals bash the hell out of Trump, just accept it, that's how the game is played.

California governor says El Salvador trip a counter to Trump

Associated Press April 7, 2019, 10:46 PM PDT

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Sunday his visit to El Salvador serves as a counter-narrative to what he called President Donald Trump's demoralizing and toxic rhetoric about Central American migrants.

"Right now you have a president that talks down to people, talks past them, demoralizing folks living here and their relatives in the United States," Newsom told reporters to close out the first day of his trip. "I think it's important to let folks know that's not our country — that's an individual in our country who happens at this moment to be president."

Newsom, a Democrat who took office in January, chose El Salvador as his first international trip because California is home to both the United States' largest Salvadoran population and its busiest border crossing.

His visit comes as Trump moves to cut millions of dollars in U.S. aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala and demands those three nations and Mexico do more to stop migrants from entering the United States.

There has been a surge of immigrants seeking asylum from the Central American nations. About 3,000 unaccompanied children and 12,000 family members from El Salvador have arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border since October.

Newsom kicked off his trip with a visit to the tomb of Saint Oscar Romero, the Salvadoran priest assassinated in 1980 at the start of the nation's civil war because of his advocacy for human rights and the poor.

The visit served as a symbol of Newsom's desire to learn about the social and economic hardships forcing Salvadorans to leave. After a private tour of the cathedral where Romero preached, Newsom lit a candle near Romero's tomb in the cathedral basement alongside his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and California state Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo.

Newsom's trip includes meetings with President Salvador Sanchez Ceren, U.S. Ambassador Jean Manes and President-elect Nayib Bukele. He'll also tour a reintegration center that processes Salvadorans deported from the United States and Mexico, see a cultural demonstration in a rural town, meet with human rights groups and discuss economic development and gang intervention.

Newsom said he's figuring out in real time what more California can do to help tackle the root causes of migration, namely deep poverty and gang violence. El Salvador is one of the world's most violent countries, with the gangs MS-13 and Barrio 18 exerting strong control. The minimum wage is just $300 per month.

Mayor Ernesto Muyshondt of San Salvador, the capital city, said he hopes Newsom can use his political influence to halt the cuts to U.S. aid, saying cuts will halt the countries progress and could cause more people to flee.

In Newsom's first three months in office, he has fought the Trump administration on perhaps no issue as much as immigration, suing over the president's emergency declaration to build a southern border wall and pledging $25 million in state money to help asylum seekers.

The Trump administration has not commented on Newsom's trip, but Republicans in California have said the governor should be more focused on poverty back home.

"The tragic circumstances that drive migrants from their homes should remind us that we have people living in crushing poverty in our own communities. Our attention and resources should be focused there," Republican state Assemblyman Devon Mathis said in a statement.

Newsom pushed back on critics, saying immigration is a driving political and policy issue that affects California more than any other state.

"How do you understand California without understanding all the diverse cultures that make it the most diverse state?" he said. "It's fundamental it seems to me to governing a state. That's why I'm here in the first months."

While Newsom hopes to plant a counter-narrative to Trump, he is barely known in El Salvador, a country just over 6 million people.

Before Newsom's visit to the cathedral, people milled about on the Gerardo Barrios Plaza, a public square out front. Only one of a half dozen people who spoke with The Associated Press said they were aware the governor of California was coming to visit, and none knew his name.

Manuel Lara, 52, has family living in Los Angeles and said he learned of Newsom's trip from the news. Lara tried to come to the United States unsuccessfully in the 1980s and now works in construction in El Salvador. He makes $10 per day.

He said Newsom's trip was a good thing given Trump's threats to rescind aid.

Lidia Rosales said she is out of work because there are not enough jobs for teachers. Even if there were, the $125 monthly pay teachers make is not enough to live comfortably, she said. She said she doesn't like how Trump talks about Latinos. But she had not heard of Newsom or why he was visiting.

Newsom said starting the trip at Romero's tomb was an event that brought full circle some of his earliest political awakenings and Catholic upbringing.

"I never thought I'd be kneeling in front of Saint Romero as governor of California," he said.

___

This story has been corrected to say that President Donald Trump is cutting millions in U.S. aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala

No surprise that Nielsen thought Trump was becoming increasingly unhinged.

Now that we are hearing that Trump, demanded the Border by El Paso, closed down, but officials had to talk Trump, out of it.

It appears that Trump, thinks he could override Federal laws on a whim.

What's really sad is that that nut-case, racist Stephen Miller, has Trump's ear, and both have plans to fill the administration with hardliners.

Trump Official to CNN: Kirstjen Nielsen Thought President Was Becoming ‘Increasingly Unhinged’ on Immigration

Kirstjen Nielsen‘s abrupt resignation as Homeland Security Secretary came at the request of President Donald Trump, over clashes on immigration policy, according to multiple reports.

A senior White House official told Axios’s Jonathan Swan that Trump wasn’t satisfied with Nielsen, and asked for her resignation. “He didn’t think she was getting the job done,” the official said.

CBS News reported that Nielsen’s departure is part of a “massive overhaul” of DHS “engineered and directed” by Stephen Miller, a top Trump adviser and immigration hardliner.

Just to say , you referred to me as Mr. Azucena above. No offense taken but it is Ms. Azucena. I am a woman.

Dear Ms. Azucena

My sincerest apology. Please forgive my Faux Pas.
I should have caught that.

Pimples,

Obama and his henchmen will be exposed and some heading to prison by the end of the year for spying on a political candidate for entirely political purpose. Then continuing their illegal activities into his presidency. The rats are starting to turn on each other as we speak.

I love the way the story has turned on the accusers. The only people who believe the Russian Hoax story are the dim-witted losers whose bubble has been popped by Trump.

Will never happen
Trump will be impeached and in jail or exile before the year is up
Will trump flee to self-imposed exile in russia or north korea? His options are limited to countries w/o extradition agreements with usa.

It's amazing some of the things some people could believe after a steady diet, of "Fox News, Breitbart, and the cartoons!

In the mean time we have a President who thinks he is a king, and above the law, and he want to engage in trade wars with China, Mexico, Canada, and even Europe.

We have another insane war monger in the administration that wants to start a war with Iran, under false pretenses. Here we go again!

And back home we have the American Taliban, white men, in Alabama want to control women bodies, and lock up women doctors for 99 years for performing a simple medical procedure called an abortion.

............ And Dead.

Laying on his West Wing bedroom floor with Fox News (Sean Hannity) flickering on the TV screen.

A pale (below the artificial tan line) Obese blob (with disappearing Orange hair) turning mushy and beginning to give off that notable Cadaver olfactory assault on the senses.

IF that doesn't make you feel better and more at peace with the universe ...................... Nothing will.

Happy Thoughts !

It is refreshing to see more than one opinion here on BN. I quit reading this rag for over a year because of the outlandish hatred and overstatement from some poorly informed semi- literate snobs. I see the same old N-zis, but also see some new ideas. Bravo.
