Looking to buy in La Mision Baja Norte. Any thoughts?

I think it's a great spot. The homes on the inland side of the hwy that back up to the river bed are a nice location with good views. La Mision is on my short list because of the small town and the close proximity to the border without being in a big city like Rosarito and Ensenada.

Why does this sound familiar?
I do love that stretch of beach. Very pretty. Nice restuarants etc.
But it's been a while.
I noticed the "tweeker" camp of abandoned casitas near the canyon end is gone.
Replace by a large house compound or something.

What Willard said about Magnas and Angie... plus if you like to golf Baja Mar is just down the road a few miles. Wine Country is accessible via all dirt roads if you want to explore a little bit. There are many positives to this location.. On the downside I personally like to be south of San Quintin for the real Baja Ball Drop feeling..:D

Bajamar looks so cool. How do you get thru the gate? Is it open to the public? Never been inside.
I don't drink wine but the vinyards are beautiful. And the soirées look fun... but pricey.

I'm guessing that is Maganas.

I don't know what that means... but it sounds painful...;)

But yes prices have dropped like my balls at Magana's. And are continuing to bounce off the bottom... vigorously...

The draw? For you, just guessing, let us start with the dozens of middle aged, divorced, horse owning gringas who call the area home. I heard recently that there are over 1500 foreigners calling the La Mission area home and more than are few are the before mentioned class.

Also of interest to you might be that the area is home base to a whole bunch of do gooder, save the savages church ladies and born again Chuyians.

Magañas is a very well know restaurant on the free road, inland highway in La Mission near the arroyo road crossing. Decent food, better sauces, best flour tortillas and the Tecates are always cold. They are really nice people.

Why horse owning?
Do they ride around on the beach? That might be fun...

I think I ate at Magana's once.
Beer was cold, food was good, people were friendly.
Didn't meet Angie.

La Mision is a nice area. But gringo, cliquey.

I go rock climbing at la misión. Always cool people around and seems fairly mellow and safe compared to the other colonias to the north and south. For the price that is.

Downfall I warned of by locals living there when I was looking is bigger grocery stores and gas are quite a ways away.

im guessing you're talking about Santa Anita on the north side of the estuary? true the beach community is pretty much a gringo enclave as is Santa Anita, the actual town of la mision is a mexican farming community.

thats just not true, there's a pemex at punta piedras right after the bridge and a new Calimax in puerto nuevo ;)

La Misión is a lovely area. Nice long beach. Mild climate. Far enough away from big cities and traffic. A few minutes to beach resorts and restaurants. Big stores like Costco, Home Depot 30 minutes.

As Don Jorge said, lots going on with horses: cabalgata events (large group ride and fiesta) rodeos, horse rescue. Quality outfitters for horseback rides, incl. the canyons, estuary, and beach.

As Luke wrote, rock climbing (steep "sport" bolted routes) overlooking the town.

La Misión is great! Note: I'm biased with my love for horseback riding, rock climbing, and lunch at Magaña's.

I did forget about that pemex, but if I remember correctly it's a bit more expensive. Not the end of the world though, that's for sure. And the new calimax is still a trek from La Mission.

K62 free road tap room Santa Anita......xlnt!:D taco stand across from the Pemex also xlnt. new Calimax a godsend!;)
