"A week in..."

I like the format for a trip report.

I am about to spend "A week in Ensenada".

I need to stay close to the border for a bit to be near Scripps. A few medical tume up type issues. They have the technology
They can rebuild me.

Anyway Ensenada is very cool and is easily overlooked.
I will try and "see the sites" while I am enjoying the "cheap motels and and taco stands" lifestyle that I love so much.
Anthony's sadly is closed and in a state of disrepair.
I think my new Ensenada office is "Charlies".
I think it's almost as good as Anthony's.
It will be in the report;)

The pot holes almost killed my little car last trip.
The traffic...
It isn't that bad unless you are in a hurry. I'm retired. I don't seem to be in a hurry anymore.
Otherwise just ease your way thru town. It's about a half hour maybe an hour.
I already know about that stuff.
I was thinking somewhere new or maybe over to Estero Beach.
Haven't been there for a while.
I've never been to the blow hole.
I can go there and be a tourist.
Maybe I can sneak onto a cruise ship... it always looks like they are having fun way up there...

I'll be in Ensenada next Sunday , staying at the Las Vegas Hotel (across the street from the Santo Tomas )
If you are there also at that time ? I would love to buy ya a beer or two...

Unfamiliar with the Vegas.
But I known for my ability to find a free beer in any town.
I actually remembered I need to get down to my camp on the 5th.
So I will need to dodge pot holes and traffic and get on down the highway.
Maybe back thru in Sunday for a monday crossing.
Might be time for a beer in there.:coolup:

La Cueva de los Tigres is long gone, more than a decade ago if not two. The other place chuckie is probably referring to is Haliotis, famous years ago for their abalone (as was La Cueva). I don't know if Haliotis is still there (last time I ate there was maybe 15 years ago and it was kind of run down), but there are lots of newer and better places to eat in Ensenada now. The street cart La Guerrerense is fantastic -- super fresh ceviches and c-ckteles (the octopus in particular is great). Another street vendor, Tacos Fenix, has arguably the best fish tacos in town. Tres Muelles on the waterfront by the harbor, fresh seafood, wine, etc., is always mobbed, for good reason. If you don't mind spending a little more, Sano's Steakhouse on the north end of town is really good. There's a brewpub on the main drag that I've been meaning to try for awhile, Wendlandt, that is supposed to be excellent. Bajaguy has the details on a lot of the good places, perhaps he'll chime in.

Ok.
Now we are talking...
I think I will need 1 night there each way so some fresh leads on the good spots.
Sometime when you are making tracks thru town knowing a good quick spot in Ensenada is excellent.
Maybe a quick bite.
Maybe to eat in line at the construction stop.

Hoping I have time to relax in town some this time.
It's an exciting and fun place to watch it all go by...

I have to add my go to for tacos on the south end of Maneadero -- Tacos Los Poblanos, east side of the highway. Excellent asada and pastor tacos, friendly people. Killer birria on the weekends, served in styrofoam coffee cups. Also, Acambaro, a few miles south of Maneadero just before the turnoff to Ejido Uruapan, is a great stop for a cold beverage and some of their excellent chips, salsa and aged queso fresco, and they serve a full menu of quality food as well. Juan, the owner, has built that place from a tiny tienda twenty years ago into a thriving store, bar, restaurant and catering enterprise, and is a good guy to know. If you need something and he doesn't have it, he can get it or find someone who can get it.

Was there at the same time, that was considered an
International surf trip. Next door to San Miguel was
a place called 3M' s, I think where the harbor is. Throwing

I used to stop there everytime. And buy beer at the Tecate sign.
A welcome relief and about 3-4 hours into it for me from Newport Beach.
Get thru town and stop at the tail end of Maneadero. Never ventured out much around there.
I have stopped at the little rundown ranch on the left side going south past all the stops.
I had barbacoa on the way home... only thing going when we stopped.
Maybe my system isn't tough enough for ranch life...:coolup:
My girl was hit by it too...
But the was a long time back.
I drive right by it now.

Wendlent has great beer, service, and food. Can't wait to get back there.

My new symbol of "I'm there".
But southbound ofcourse.
And my new favorite cheap motel. And where my rental car decided it wanted to sleep on my last trip.
Getting up early and getting my tire fixed and out by 10 was a challenge.
250 pesos after 10 until 10.
It was destiny.
Guess I'll hang out and eat tacos until 10.
It's only 350 for the whole night.
But I like the "trucker special"
I wonder where the truckers hang out? That might be interesting...

If you like fresh sushi I highly recommend Temaky Sushi in Ensenada. It's only a door or two from Hussongs Canitna. Muy Rico

Drove by it a couple of weeks ago and was wondering whether it was any good. I also noticed that there's another Temaky Sushi in the new Marea Vista Hotel down by the Malecon. Thanks for the tip -- I'll hit it next chance I get.

Yep. Poorly maintained cars make congestion really bad. There isn't much about Ensenada, speaking of the downtown and adjacent areas from, say, UABC in the North to Chapultepec and Cipres air base in the South. Intermediate waypoint for some, shopping/medical destination for others. Oh yeah, the INM office too.

Those who live there, might grow to like this city out of psychological defense mechanism - making peace with whatever you're in.

I look forward to your A week in Ensenada report. I have fond memories too from all the trips we made there when growing up.
I’ve heard, recently too, about the pot holes from hell...could you take some pics of them? Would love to see them. TIA
