Bahia Asuncion Update

shari - 6-4-2019 at 03:04 PM

I must admit I never thought I would see a seawall built in Bahia Asuncion in my lifetime! And in a matter of a few short months it is done and the inauguration was a few days ago! It starts at our Beach House and goes all the way along the town beach area. The palms they planted to replace the ones that got washed out in a hurricane swell a few years ago look fantastic although seem to be a bit close to the wall and the stairs are beautiful too.

We havent had a big wet storm in a few years...lots of discussion whether this wall will actually protect the beachfront properties or will just break up in a hurricane swell.

After a couple long months of wind out here on the central Pacside, more sand dunes have built up on the highway about 20 minutes out of Vizcaino and before the turnoff to Asuncion. They are in places where there usually arent dunes and can sneak up on you if you are going too fast....which most people do as the road is so smooth with no potholes.

The village is looking pretty dapper with all the flowers in bloom on the main street too...ready to welcome visitors now that the windy season is almost over!

How deep does the wall go? Is it like 2/3 below the sand and 1/3 above?

tiotomasbcs - 6-4-2019 at 03:19 PM

Beautiful! And how lucky it includes the beach out in front of the Beach House. Any local Eco/green groups pickin plastic? You All be Stylin! Tio:bounce:

Don Pisto - 6-4-2019 at 03:41 PM

beautiful! hope you don't end up with a Tres Santos debacle though:coolup:

surfhat - 6-4-2019 at 04:40 PM

Maybe a boardwalk is next?

Looking good and good for BA.

David K - 6-4-2019 at 04:50 PM

Good news, I hope!

Bummer for old folks or handicapped unless there is a ramp as well as all those stairs?

One of photo links did not work. The one just before the sand covering the highway.

Hope to come back down with Elizabeth and just relax in the Dolphin or Rock Room!

shari - 6-4-2019 at 06:25 PM

Perhaps Rossman can fill in some info as he watched the project from beginning to end...seems to me that unfortunately the wall does not have a real deep foundation so it will be interesting to see how well it holds up in the next big hurricane swell...sure looks nice though and real uptown with those big palms! Swanky!

I love the idea of a boardwalk and hope that is what it will be instead of cars driving on it now.

David...It will be much easier now on those wide stairs to carry a wheelchair down instead of scrambling down an uneven, unstable sand bank.

different groups realize clean ups

Big yellowtail moving into Cedros. Hopefully the season gets an early start in BA. See you soon!

In Mexico, and i guess in every other part of the world, the real business in building with public money it's the maintenance.

I know a guy whose company was in charge of maintenance of the Rosarito-Ensenada highway and retired as a very wealthy person. Meanwhile the road its still falling apart.

Hey it looks great!

Off Topic.... Shari I never properly thanked you for the fresh sashimi platter you made for myself and Big Ron and Butch back in November. We stopped in our off road buggies on the bluff by your house and you came over and offered to make us some fresh fish.
Thank you very much. That was so nice of you and we appreciate it !!
Don

Shari is the best!
When we first drove out there (2007)... look at what she thrust into my hands!

shari - 6-7-2019 at 11:27 AM

Wow David....that was before we even had the rock walls around the first patio!
and Don...you are very welcome...it was nice to meet you and chat! Drop in again when you are in the hood!

I forgot to mention that we have a wonderful masseuse in Bahia Asuncion now too...very economical and professional!

WORD

shari - 8-25-2019 at 08:58 AM

well, I am just glad that this wall has improved the village...whoever paid for it! The high storm surge just kissed it so the test will come later I'm sure.

Great to see some oldies posting!

vgabndo - 8-25-2019 at 03:37 PM

It looks like we are going to be pulling off one last trip to Baja. I'm checking into my old memberships to see what is current. I have huge mixed feelings about the 18 months I lived in Bahia Asuncion. I was "living my dream" while trying to survive what I described as a "hole in my heart with a bitter wind blowing through it." With my depression and the distance from my Medicos. I put myself on the cusp of Stage V kidney failure. Like many broken old men who run away to Baja, I came limping home with a rescue dog to pick up the pieces. I'm in high Stage IV, stable. We fixed our marriage and have our 27th. coming up. We've downsized to a b-tchin' little Toyota micro mini Winnegabo and I'm looking forward to seeing beloved country and old friends.

shari - 8-25-2019 at 03:39 PM

good for you Perry...hopefully you will stop in for a visit!

When are you thinking of leaving? October? November? September is always risky with the threat of chubascos or worse.........but you know that!

Blair - 8-25-2019 at 08:15 PM

Thanks for the update Shari. Progress One will be heading south late October and will definitely plan a fuel stop and a couple of days in Asuncion. Much better experience than Tortugas!

Not even close. Probably 1/4 below and 3/4 above. We don't get big storms very often so it may last a while. Even if the wall goes down the cement riff raff will help reduce the erosion.

actually last year we had no storms in September and 2 big ones in October...seems like everything was a month late in 2018-19...the water has warmed up later this year too...so seems like now we have to extend our worry season into October...sheesh.

We will certainly be stopping in BA for a bit. Plans are fluid as we have to choose a house sitter for the gatos. Looking at December. If the weather cooperates, I'd like to boondock at San Roque...fish...chill. Looking forward to seeing you.
