Hotel in san Quintin

We will be heading north through San Quintin on 8/3 and all my regular spots are full, Old Mill, jardines, Don eddies etc. I have been trying to get hold of Cielito Lindo but the phone has been a fast busy for the last couple of days. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks

30 miles before San Quintín, Baja Cactus in El Rosario, next door to the Pemex, owned by Baja Nomad and staying or fueling there supports the emergency rescue service, Halcones del Desierto... plus it's just the best place in Baja on the highway at an incredible price.

Villa de San Quintin

It's on the highway on the right as you head north - towards the north end of town. Since it's on the main road, it may not be what you're looking for, but it's set back a bit from the road and we weren't bothered by any traffic noise. It has a good restaurant also.

Also, if you want to stop driving earlier, Baja Cactus as David K suggests.

Look at Hotel Mission Santa Maria. Right by Cielito Lindo but it’s on the beach. Was originally El Presidente back in the day then was a La Pinta. Great ocean view from every upstairs room, AC/Heat, hot showers, clean rooms, great restaurant and bar, even room service if you want it. If you don’t mind paying $100ish a night for a room it’s the only beachfront in SQ. Actually about 10 min south of Old Mill and 15 from town.

I stayed there after the new owners took over and it was $50. They upgraded the rooms etc, nice place but at $100 I'll look else where.

I've also stayed at the Villa de San Quintin mentioned above everal times and like it. The owner also has a hotel in TJ. His son and daughter run the one in San Quintin.

Bummer, I’m sure you would have liked it. If you drive about 45 min north of SQ there is a nice hotel/restaurant, Hotel Paraíso, on the east side of Hwy 1 in Colonet. They have been very friendly and accommodating when I’ve been there and the price was fair. Rooms a real clean but there is some road noise when the trucks use their jake brakes coming down the grade.

Like many tourist destinations the price of the Mission Santa Maria varies by time of year and occupancy from $50-$100ish but being high season I figured it would be the high price. $100 might seem like a lot to some for a room but not all travelers in Baja are on a budget and they are full so I guess people are willing to pay to be off the highway and on the beach.

I've stayed at Hotel Paraiso, good place as you say. Restaurant was also good.

Clean rooms, very affordable. Good restaurant on premises

An unexpected situation last late winter in Feb. when my friends and I headed north after our spectacular whale magic camp experience for our stay at the Santa Maria in San Quintin was that it was mostly empty.

When I made reservations several months prior there were no rooms available for our time schedule.

I suppose many reservations had been cancelled for whatever reasons.

That this beautiful hotel on the beach at that time was so empty was more than curious. At the time, this worked in our favor, but I feel for these providers who count on this particular season to carry them through the year.

Weather could have been a factor as we heard that torrential rainstorms had gone nuts further north while we were down.

For the future prospect of reserving the dates we may need, I would still recommend making reservations months ahead of time and don't always rely upon our preferred dates being unavailable.

If at first you don't get the dates you hope for does not mean they will not be available in the future. Keep on it and your will more than likely get a room when you want it.

I don't blame the hotels for this inaccuracy. It is the market that drives everything.

When I first found I could not get the exact dates I wanted and made a reservation elsewhere, I had to personally go to the alternative to let them know I would not be using their rooms.

For some reason, the outfit, Hotels.com that recommended an alternative was not amenable to helping me cancel the reservations when I found that the Santa Maria was mostly empty.

I felt that going to this offering in person was needed. Their gracious appreciation of my efforts to let them know I was not staying with them and had chosen elsewhere was obvious.

I suppose this is all for letting people know that if you make reservations, and are told there is nothing available for you specific dates, don't give up.

Keep them on your contact list to check back. Weather, politics, etc, can affect the flow of tourism.

These providers need all of our support for the short season, which ever season it may be.

The restaurants associated with these offerings are worth every peso and the hotels go out of their way to address every concern.

What more could we ask for an over night stay on the road?
