What a deal!
I remember when you bought the truck and I think we first saw it at the Baja-Rosario Festival in 2006?

Sandlefoot - 8-15-2019 at 05:46 PM

John, in one part of the add it shows 244000 miles and in another, it shows 244,00! What is the mileage, 244000 or 24,400?

Happy Trails

TMW - 8-15-2019 at 06:06 PM

John what did you replace it with a Jeep or FORD or G wagon.

mileage - I'll correct it to show what is correct

John M - 8-15-2019 at 06:27 PM

should read 244,000 - lots of miles but mechanically very sound. We've used it in Baja on lots of trips, TMW can vouch for it's reliability.

So can I, :light:
John, will you really risk changing brands after 13 years with a Toyota? Is a Jeep Gladiator in your sights? Ken Cooke has been seen cruising Riverside in his!

bajatrailrider - 8-16-2019 at 07:43 AM

Very nice set up Toyota John 👌

TMW - 8-16-2019 at 04:57 PM

John sent me this picture of his new vehicle. It seems Barbara was tire of sleeping on the ground on their Baja trips.

Almost one-quarter of a million miles. How many more before the engine/tranny need a rebuild?

What's your guess?

Whale-ista - 8-16-2019 at 07:24 PM

Beautiful rig!
Is "short bed" 6 feet?

And if anyone is thinking of this truck, AND looking for a good camper to go with this lovely truck= here's one to consider for your next Baja adventure:

The 4-door standard bed is 5 feet. John's in the same model as mine.
The engine is an ox... John's care is meticulous. Changing the oil regularly is all you do to keep the 4.0 V-6 happy.

Whale-ista - 8-16-2019 at 07:59 PM

A 5 foot bed can be a challenge when it comes to finding a camper, carrying kayaks etc.

Re:engine- how is the mileage in the Toyota?

(My Mazda B-4000 is also a 4.0/6 cylinder. Not great mileage, but appreciate the extra power.)

Yes the short bed - 5'

John M - 8-16-2019 at 08:07 PM

I took a tape measure out - yes it measures to 5'

David K, should be a salesman! But, he is correct regarding regular servicing. I've had the oil changed every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, transmission serviced every 50,000 or so (I do have all of the service records) as well as all the fluids changed a number of times. A couple of years ago I had all of the engine compartment hoses replaced with factory hoses, cooling system serviced regularly. I've really paid attention to all of the details. Gone the "extra" step like with the front axles & lower control arms a year or two ago - I've wanted it to be dependable for all of the Baja and east Mojave trips we've done.

Obviously I have no way to predict what's ahead but you are certainly welcome to have it checked out. Never been in an accident though there is a ding in one of the rock sliders and another behind the left rear tire.

I don't know which Craigslist posting is here on Nomad but the option for the tool box, can carrier, and bed rack is still on the table. I had listed it at $12,000 on Craigslist but we've rethought it and now are offering it for $10,000.

That is/was an awesome truck -- a solid buy for the next owner. I just sold my '06 and got a fresh '19 4x4 off road, access cab, long bed.

StuckSucks - 8-17-2019 at 03:52 PM

Also interesting, the '19 V6 is spec'd for engine oil viscosity 0W-20.

TMW - 8-17-2019 at 05:25 PM

I think one of the reasons is that engines tolerances are much tighter now so a thinner oil is needed. Overall engines have been lasting much longer partly due to better lubricants and partly due to better manufacturing.

David K - 8-17-2019 at 05:46 PM

The 2010 Toyota engine calls for SAE 0-30 (dyno).
I am now running 10-30 Castrol Edge High Mileage synthetic (switched from dyno about 30,000 miles ago.
I think I was running 10-40 Castrol 'GTX' synthetic during all my Baja trips in 2017?

You pay a premium for Toyota quality.

One of the many good things about getting older, any car that will last 100K miles is going to outlast me, given my age and the amount I drive.

Looking like ti's sold!

John M - 8-19-2019 at 05:48 PM

We've taken a deposit - in my view it is unfortunate that the buyer is not an off road guy and all of the upgrades will see little dirt. Bucks is bucks however. John M

David K - 8-19-2019 at 05:58 PM

Are you going to tell us what it's being replaced with???

John M - 8-19-2019 at 06:55 PM

TW was on the right track, though just a little too old (just like us)

Have you seen the smallest and least expensive in the earthroamer line?

TMW - 8-19-2019 at 08:41 PM

John you got more money than I thought. The LTS starts at $490,000 and requires a $50,000 deposit.

I'm cheap I buy used.

John M - 8-19-2019 at 09:14 PM

guess I didn't read the fine print....

7/11 here we come for a lottery ticket.

TMW - 8-21-2019 at 03:14 PM

First pictures of John's new vehicle.

David K - 8-21-2019 at 03:17 PM

Yes, John likes to help others!
On the 2015 Pole Line Road trip, he left before we began the WWII road drive to stay with the wounded Ford heading back to Rio Hardy, just in case. Sadly, he didn't turn back to meet up with us later that day.

TW, TW come on

John M - 8-21-2019 at 04:42 PM

Hey Tom, show a little love - how about a couple of minutes in photoshop?

TMW - 8-22-2019 at 11:10 AM

I told john he should consider a fixer upper and recommended he buy this one. He has plenty of time on his hands.

TMW - 8-22-2019 at 11:20 AM

On the other hand John may prefer one already built to run, like this one.
