The road to San Nicolas'

vgabndo - 8-25-2019 at 03:56 PM

I'm very familiar with the road, but I haven't been over it since 2013. I've done it a hundred times in 3/4 ton pickups. If the worst spots haven't had some fairly serious work, I question whether my new-to-me Toyota v-6 micro RV can "make the grade." A local friend says I can do it. Has anyone driven a rig like this into San Nicolas?

Is this the San Nicholas just South of Bahia Concepcion?

vgabndo - 8-25-2019 at 04:39 PM

Yes, it is. I could have been more clear.

Hi Perry, I drove it in 2017. It was very easy to drive. 2WD ok.

What's out there?

Wonder if you can cut over to Punta Pulpito. I tried to map it out on GE, but didn't make it all the way.

While I havent driven out to San Nicolas, I have taken my toyota RV all over baja down plenty of places with crappy roads, including San Basilio just down the way

you should be able to go most anywhere a 2wd pickup can go, the departure angle sucks sometimes on short whoops or really rough transitions, worse case you rip the chit tanks off and gotta go pull em up off the side of the road, a smelly and embarrassing endeavor but not the end of the world

running around down in Aguaverde

i did add some additional springs and airbags to carry the weight a bit more and get the saggy booty up in the air, these things are undersprung and overloaded from the factory

feel free to hit us up on facebook to ask any questions related to your new yoterhome, weve been fulltiming in ours for the past 4 years, driven from Florida to Alaska down to MX and everywhere in between.

if you are adventurous with your bike, you could pioneer a track from San Basilio to Punta Pulpito.
The padres did.
There is an old mining road about half way going north

Excellent, that looks like a fun drive. Looks like that beach the furthest South might be good for camping.

Hola 4x4 abc

Pulpito is on my list for this year. What is that last pocket beach like In the SE corner of your track. I would like to get my camper in there. Is the road steep down into it? Good spot to camp out of the northerlies?

Thanks man

the 2 east arms (and beaches) are not worth driving
narrow ans scratchy
rocky, windy beach

Pulpito is good for Obsidian hunting
cool hikes to the top

best camping west of Punta San Antonio

4x4abc - 8-26-2019 at 08:53 AM

one of the east beaches

I'll be checking your Facebook soon. I'm serving a 7-day sentence for posting a political image that was deemed to violate community standards. The friend request will come from Perry Sims.

I was just out to Pulpito by boat last month. But wasn't looking closely at the beaches.

Here is the best shot I could find of the bay South of it.

There are some pretty serious reefs protecting that bay. Also, I know people who have dug hot baths at the surf line from geo thermal, but I don't know where. Above that bay is the stone house and private runway of Carlos Slim. It shows clearly on Google Earth.

Highway 1 to San Nicolas, Feb. 2017

David K - 8-28-2019 at 05:13 PM

The road goes east at Km. 62 (south of Mulegé) and just past the Restaurant Rosarito (on the west side of the highway). It is 10.2 miles to the village, near the sea, which is 0.2 miles beyond. Chuy's Sportfishing is advertised. I did not see any signage for tourist services, camping, etc.
