i've been reading about them lately and was wondering if they are local patrol cars or more of a roving type of patrol? where have they been seen? speed traps to avoid, etc...

just wondering-

the only ones I have herd of or seen are operated by the federal Camino's.

speed traps

In the last four months I've seen speed traps set up for northbound traffic on the Cuota (pay road) at (going from Rosarito south) the sweeping blind curve that is just after the Fitosanitario checkpoint (fruit inspector) before Califia towers, and a few miles farther along, where there is the first very big house right on top of the hill on the east side.

Going southbound, I've seen a speed trap just as you round the turn by the Calafia towers.

This part of Baja is getting serious about traffic enforcement, today I saw a Caminos Federales car equipped with one of those forward facing video cameras that provide so much entertaining feed to the reality entertainment shows.

Be prepared, the next Fox series might be "Cops - Baja" :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

And you who go to Baja to let loose, might find yourself becoming inadvertently infamous.

I have seen the guns two places. Just south of Guerrero Negro on the northbound side and just north of the Pemex outside of La Paz, they also just park a squad car, empty, there.
Jeez how could I forget between San Lucas and San Jose. Heading toward SJ on the right side just before El Tule bridge and heading toward SL on the right side just past the Pemex...this one they get you from either direction due to the dip in the road right there.

I remember in the 1940's.............

near Tracy, CA the highway patrol erected a plywood cutout of a patrol car alongside the highway. It was a good "reductor de velocidad"! Even if you knew it was there, there could have been a real one parked next to it shielding the cutout from view.

Why is everyone concerned about Mexico enforcing their laws?

that would slow me down.

Mexican Traffic Laws

Perhaps people who drive these roads are concerned because of the unrealistic and arbitrary speed limits on open highways.
I've been driving along at 100 kph when suddenly the speed limit dropped to 60 kph for absolutely no reason.
Most of my neighbors have radar detectors and they get lit up at least once on every trip to Mexicali. I usually drive close enough to the speed limit to slow before I encounter a police unit, but every once in awhile, I end up with one on my tail before I've slowed. Fortunately, I haven't been pulled over for speed in almost 20 years, but there have been a number of close calls.
