Where do you guys take your trucks/jeeps/etc. to get them modified in SoCal?

Thinking it's time to lift my truck a little bit.

Aside from adding air bags, or modifying rear springs to level up a loaded truck, I always prefer my suspension near normal. I would rather max out my clearance with oversize tires, even if it means cutting the fender wells!

I feel safer on side slopes, and in sudden hard cornering situations with near stock suspension. I know most off roaders will disagree with me, but that is how I roll (or don't)!

A private Baja racing fabricator in Vista, named Jason "Speed Freek" : http://speed-freek.com/
He is a suspension guru using anything from Bilstein up to King or ICON, etc.

I use Gabe at 4 Wheel Parts in El Cajon. They are great. Most parts arrive next day, price is reasonable and they do great installs. They can help you with just about any modification. The most important thing is finding someone who is knowledgable and has access to multiple sources. I think people assume because 4 Wheel Parts is a big chain that they are more of a mass production shop, but I have gotten great custom service from them.

The Truck Shop in San Diego does some great work. http://sdtruckshop.com/

What are you driving? If it’s all bolt on you could do it yourself and save a bunch on the install, not have to get in line somewhere for weeks or months and it would be a good learning lesson for the kids.

Kartec is a great resource for any part you would need and usually everything is in stock and a better price you can get from the manufacturer. Shocks are commonly 6 weeks or more out these days and so are springs if they don’t have them on the shelf.

When I built my Taco last fall I had a hard time gettin the shock people to call me back. A call to Kartec and 2 days later I had shocks and springs and the coil overs are Fox 16” 2.5” remote resis, Fox wanted 6 to 8 weeks to build them. All the rest of the stuff I built so didn’t have to be on anyone else’s time schedule but my own.

Depending on what you want to do, a weekend or two would get it all done and you’d have the piece of mind all the nuts are tight and all the parts that needed to be used actually got used.

I recently added King shocks and Deaver rear springs to my '19 Tacoma -- I did the work myself (with a friend's help), in six hours.

The prices that this shop charges me work on my prerunner. Are to me not enough to cover even materials. Let alone labor so he is very happy. When he gets a 50.00 dollar tip. Not ever asked for.
