Happy Birthday Mexico!

David K - 9-15-2019 at 11:01 PM

Mexico's Independence was declared on Sept. 16, 1810.
The war with Spain ended just over 11 years later and the news reached Baja California in the Spring of 1822.

VIVA MEXICO!

Feliz Día de la Independencia.

One Wonders ....................... ?

MrBillM - 9-16-2019 at 08:06 AM

From a U.S. perspective (which is the most important one) WHAT might have been had Mexico remained a part of Spain ?

How would that have affected our southwest expansion ?

How about the Spanish-American war ?

Would we have profited more ?

Anyway, Happy B Day.

I guess.

Corporate agriculture has been profiting off the labor of Mexicans for over 100 years. Just look at the California farmers use of undocumented workers, not to mention the "Bracero" programs of the 50's and 60's.

In your opinion is that a good or a bad thing?

In the big scheme of things, exploitation of workers is probably not a good thing. But, subsidized water also had it's advantages and disadvantages that contributed to the situation. As Hyman Roth said, " It's the business we've chosen." All we can do is used learned knowledge to hopefully guide us to better decisions.

... and French empire in Mexico was defeated another 41 years later, in the 2nd battle of Puebla in 1863. Though they celebrate Cinco de Mayo - 5th of May 1862, the date of the 1st battle of Puebla where they defeated "some" French troops.

Speaking of Frogs ....................

Different result = better or worse ?

For them and us ?
