Tropical Storm Lorena

jedge42 - 9-18-2019 at 02:06 PM

Soon to be Hurricane Lorena and hit Cabo Corrientes and Puerto Vallarta ...

Due to pass Baja to the west starting Saturday morning ... things could change (for the better for Baja) if it goes significantly onshore down south ... should know more on that tomorrow ...

as always http://eebmike.com/ has the info ...

worth keeping an eye on if you are in BCS ...

BajaParrothead - 9-18-2019 at 03:54 PM

Be careful Alabama!

shari - 9-19-2019 at 08:03 AM

looks like some rain & wind for the tip but this morning Windy is predicting not too bad...Lorena is shrinking, Mario is more west and things are looking better at this point..but as Juan says....never trust a hurricane let alone 2! But seems to be less ominous this morning.
I will start taking bets for no rain at all in Asuncion as usual!

chippy - 9-19-2019 at 01:52 PM

Looks like a direct hit on the tip now.:(

BajaParrothead - 9-19-2019 at 03:25 PM

I guess my new rooftop palapa bar is going to be tested :(

shari - 9-19-2019 at 06:11 PM

Lorena sped up considerably so it may be a long night at the tip. The satellite looks like she is going more east up the inside to La Paz.
Roads are sure to be a mess for a few days down south.

It would be great to get some onsite reports amigos...let us know how you are faring Tio Tomas!

Well, Lorena's arrival in Cabo is imminent. And it is predicted to barely be a Cat I hurricane. Still called a tropical storm, pending further data readings.

things are looking much better this morning...Lorena doesnt seem to want to visit Cabo and has veered more west. Windy is showing a big fat nothing burger for us up here in central baja...fine with me.

It still passes close to BA, before heading West. Windy predicts some rain on Sunday-ish there, winds under 20 kt.

just got wind (strong, but not crazy) and rain starting around 130 ... rain has been on and off all morning, sometimes hard ...

from the satellite view it looks like the eye is just about to come ashore east of San José del Cabo ... they say it is moving west and is forecast to veer northwest at some point, not sure that's what I see on the satellite imagery ...

10km or so south of Los Barriles ...

Russ - 9-20-2019 at 09:29 PM

Back to the hurricane watch PLEASE. Any updates or real info would be appreciated by those actually living here.

We've had a 42mph gust already here's an update from my weather machine

Back to the important matter at hand.

HURRICANE Lorena has defied most predictions and is out over the warm, open water of the Sea of Cortez. Predicted track from the NHC is along the inside of the peninsula.

Maybe windy.com wasnt crazy when it predicted that the area between Santa Rosalia and Mulege might get 12-36 inches of rain over a five day period. That prediction was about 24 hours ago.

chuckie - 9-21-2019 at 03:52 AM

OH MY!

Russ - 9-21-2019 at 04:44 AM

5:30am - 85º - NE 7mph too dark to see but much calmer than last night. Appears that Lorena is moving East a bit and degrading some soon. Still, expecting lots of rain and wind here. Hope everyone south of us does well and is safe.

Bob and Susan - 9-21-2019 at 05:13 AM

mulege will NOT get 12-36 inches of rain

now...maybe 1 inch

john68 - 9-21-2019 at 05:26 AM

Any reports from Los Barriles?

Bob and Susan - 9-21-2019 at 06:13 AM

7am mulege on the bay...

looks like coyote and benaventura to the south are already getting "blasted"

the opening to the bay looks wet too

9:00 Loreto, a little bit of rain during the night, right now light wind.

barely rained in La Paz - total disappointment

Lorena

tehag - 9-21-2019 at 09:05 AM

Loreto: Frequent rain bands passing over with some heavy rain and moderate wind. Storm center is now out over the gulf and could strengthen from current TS back to H. Still south of us and coming on slowly. Mario will soak the west side and Lorena the east for a very green fall show.

Maybe you have a different Windy.com than me. Mine measures in mm, not inches. 12-36 mm = 0.5-1.4 inch.

Russ - 9-21-2019 at 10:26 AM

11am - moderate to light rain with 0 to 10 mph breeze. We have had a 1/2" of rain so far. 80º

AKgringo - 9-21-2019 at 10:36 AM

I hate to interrupt, but you can change your Windy forecast to read in inches or millimeters, and the wind speed in knots, or mph. Your choice!

BajaDanD - 9-21-2019 at 10:41 AM

I was just going to say that

CJ - 9-21-2019 at 11:29 AM

Looks like it’s about over in Loreto. Think I’ll put the shutters up.

BigBearRider - 9-21-2019 at 11:44 AM

How are the waves in Mulegé/Punta Chivato? Damn storms take the beach sand away every now and then.

Russ - 9-21-2019 at 12:12 PM

No noticeable beach erosion. Waves now 1 to 2 feet only a breeze now and 81º. I thought I would be locked in with hurricane conditions today. Still some big clouds down south and if something develops I'll post.

AKgringo - 9-21-2019 at 12:31 PM

If the road by La Ventana/ Los Planes is damaged that badly, the back road over the pass to El Cardonal and Los Barriles probably took a hard hit!

SFandH - 9-21-2019 at 02:31 PM

A couple of videos of Mulege street flooding here:

They got it bad. Always tie your "tinaca" down, especially when it's empty :)

thebajarunner - 9-21-2019 at 04:37 PM

AOL weather reports heavy rain now late afternoon in LA Bay

Russ - 9-21-2019 at 05:17 PM

6pm - 84º - N breeze 6mph - not raining with a total rain of .6". I'm waiting on photo bucket. Surf is large for no wind with set to 5' but average around 3'. No damage from the surf as far as I can see it never made the high tide mark today. The track model showing the storm has move to the mainland now (http://eebmike.com/) Maybe photos later...

This photo doesn't show even the average surf but shows there was little or no runoff down my arroyo. Still waiting on photobucket...

Meanwhile, Mario is heading for BA. Possibly, BOLA.

shari - 9-21-2019 at 05:43 PM

Mario is depressed & discombobulated with Lorena's spurning him... so as usual it is most likely that we will get no wind, no rain or winter snow.

Hook - 9-22-2019 at 07:39 AM

Almost one inch in San Carlos, Sonora, and Lorena came quite close to the town. Biggest gust my PWS showed was 28 mph, yesterday around noon.

W-T-F ?

MrBillM - 9-23-2019 at 01:37 PM

At home in Yucca Valley working outside earlier under clear skies with nary a cloud visible in any direction, my wife comes out and tells me that we're under a severe thunderstorm alert from the remnant of Lorena.

Turning to the Weather Channel, I find that (sure enough) they are showing said alert for 12:13 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the radar showing nearest rain in the Phoenix area extending Northeastward. The shortest period of alert (47 minutes) that I've ever seen. Nothing occurred, of course.

Very strange.

The 7-day forecast on the same source shows thunderstorm activity for Wednesday and showers Thursday.

Quien Sabe ?

StuckSucks - 9-24-2019 at 11:57 AM

Yesterday morning I was driving south on I-17 in AZ and caught the wrath of Lorena. Driving down the hill toward Black Canyon City, we went from dry to torrential downpour in a matter of seconds -- all interstate bridges had muddy water flowing underneath. I'm a fan of carnage in the desert, so this was fun to see.
