Going to San Javier from the south

geraldalexander7 - 10-10-2019 at 12:12 PM

Has anyone gone to San Javier via Ciudad Insurgentes, going east from 53 near Santo Domingo thru Piedras Paradas.....
I will try to post a pic of my map.

Part of the Baja 1000 race course on a peninsula run usually and a pretty cool drive. Lots of water crossings.

The visita ruin of La Presentación is along that road and Nomad 'Gueribo' has posted photos this year on Nomad. I know a couple of people who drove it all the way to Hwy. 53 (Santo Domingo end) and nothing significant to report other than a graded, 2WD road with a few water crossings.

A few water crossings? I lost count of the many water crossings in December 2016!

At that time, it was a pretty decent dirt road, and the crossings had been used enough that 4x4 was not necessary. I enjoyed the drive!

very smooth and easy road

Thanks for the good reports!

if the locals can do it - you can do it

I tried to map this back to the trail in the op and only got about halfway. Do you have a track?

JZ
Did you ever get any more info about this route?

JZ - 12-28-2020 at 10:32 PM

No, I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

Will post the track.

Route was very dry December 2021. Only one real water crossing. Baja 1000 traffic left a lot of stray boulders in the tracks. Very dry from the two years of drought since fall 2019.

Looking for recent reports on this route. Understand there will be water crossings, just wondering what the general character of the road is after the storms...

There was a hurricane on Sept. 8, this year that flooded much of the peninsula.
The good part is (if you are going south from San Javier) that you won't travel far before being forced back (if you can't pass).
The other direction would be less pleasant to find the way to the mission blocked!
Report back what you discover!
