Road to Comond?

Anyone have any recent info on the condition of the road between San Javier and Comond?, west of Loreto? Should we drive a Subaru Forester, or an older Ford 4wd pickup?

I motorcycled that road in January to Comundu and on to San Isidro. The road was in pretty good shape with a couple of rough spots on the highest mesas. A Subaru should handle it if its not overloaded but a 4wd pickup would certainly be better. Its a beautiful drive!

Thanks guys for the responses.

We drove from Loreto to Constitution today via Hwy 1, and stocked up at the Ley. From there we drove north to La Poza Grande and bought lobster tails. Then up to the Comandus. We took the Subaru. From there we took the "shortcut" over the mountains to near San Javier and on to Loreto. There were spots where more ground clearance would have been nice, and one tough washed out steep climb where an extra low gear would have been better. Tough coming down the other side too. Anyway, we made it-a beautiful drive. And we did not see a single vehicle from San Jose de Comundu to the Loreto-San Javier road. But next time I'll take the pickup!
