inReach subscription plans
Garmin offers Safety, Recreation Expedition plans as well as Freedom plans for each of the three. Freedom plans allow start and stop to lower your cost.

Pick the plan that fits your needs.

Definitions
SEND INTERVAL is always one track point every 10 minutes for all plans. Send interval is what is displayed on the file you send to your friends via a web link.

LOG INTERVAL is the actual track points stored in the device and can be collected later to allow export to KML and GPX files. LOG INTERVAL can be set as low as 1/second for the Recreation and Expedition plans. LOG INTERVAL for Safety plan is fixed at one per 10 minute. Default LOG INTERVAL is 10/minute for all plans. Change it for detailed tracks. (I use 15 second lately).

Safety plan (11.95/m) only allows one track point every 10 minute which means when you either send the link to your friends or export your track to KML or GPX you will get a bunch of straight lines between points 10 minutes apart. This means if you drive a curvy road the track makes little sense, but for sure it will tell the viewer where you are with coordinates, etc.

Recreation plan (24.95/m) allows as small as 1-second log interval which will result is a very smooth track when you export it to KML or GPX and 40/m messages instead of 10/m. LOG INTERVAL is transferred from your device to the Garmin server when you do a Sync. Do it for each trip then clear the memory in the device.

Repeating -- Both Safety and Recreation plans use the one per 10-minute SEND INTERVAL for the file you send to others.

What this means choose Safety plan if you never want to get a KML or GPX then just be satisfied with the 10-minute LOG INTERVAL (and 10-minute send interval) and 10 messages/m.

Freedom plans cost more/m than basic per month, but the cost goes away when you elect to not have coverage.
