OK John,
Go to your inReach Explore map: https://inreach.garmin.com/Map
Over on the far right/ top (just above the map) see the two boxes... One has an arrow going into the box and one has the arrow going out of the box.The arrow going out is what you click for exporting a KML or GPX file.

David, I guess I didn't explain myself so very well. I'll send you an email with the file I have. Looks as though I need to create an inReach account.

To see your own inReach track then you have to have an inReach account to bring up the map. So, that is step one.

Use Back Country Navigator. It's better for tracking.

Use Inreach for SOS and 2-way texting.

More clearly stated, it's this way

a fellow emailed me an inReach track. This is what the file name is

2135_12tedyf86_EMHT-1 (1)

the EMHT-1 is what he named the file to separate it from EMHT-2

So, I open the inReach file in GPS Track Maker which I use for converting different format gps files and I can see the track he made but I cannot separate it from the background map. Below is a picture here of what I see in GPS TrackMaker.

This is how to get the track and your friend just needs to change the date range on his map to the time he was on that trail then export that track. If you want to have your friend call me, that is fine and I will talk him through the steps.

John, Post the link

Thanks Paul

Problem solved - he was sending me the wrong gps file.

I tried attaching it here but can't figure that out either.

I'll email it to you Paul - it's a great off road adventure - nearly 700 miles worth in the east Mojave!

Just email it to me and I will post it here, if you wish.

Can't do that David

It's not my track - it's part of a long-term project being developed.

The "Overland Journal" Gear Guide just out has a background story.

Ok, well you said you tried to attach it here, so that was my offer. Have a Merry Christmas!
