Tent Camping in Los Zacatitos?

sunapeelucy - 12-27-2019 at 03:01 PM

Is anyone familiar with the village of Los Zacatitos, about ten miles east of San Jose del Cabo? What do folks think about the safety/riskiness of tent camping there, about a mile inland? With the recent uptick of violence in Los Cabos, just wondering if people think it's bad idea to sleep in a tent in a rural area.

Thanks all!

I did some tent camping in the cape area and did not experience any bad vibes. I'm not familiar with Los Zacatitos - are you considering boondocking somewhere? You can always ask where can you camp that is safe, and possibly get some suggestions. I stayed at a campground outside Santiago at Sol de Mayo, at Los Arbolitos (5 mi. so. of Cabo Pulmo), which are both a relatively short drive from SJ Del Cabo. Might be worth the miles in terms of amenities (beach access, hiking trails, showers).

This an area where lots of surfers search for waves and camp on the beach. Find someone else who is camping and pick a place close by. Have not heard of robbery out there. Cartel activities are normally in San Lucas, San Jose or La Paz.

tio is right. There won´t be many surfers this time of year but maybe some windies. Just find an arroyo to the beach and post up. I did it solo for decades with no problems. I would go further east though.

Thanks, this is helpful. My friend’s dad owns the land in the village but there’s no building, hence the camping. There will be 3 tents and at least one car. (Safety in numbers?)

Let us know how it goes and what the beach is like - restaurants, other camping options.

Been dirt biking out that way a bunch. Rode out just past there about a week ago from San Jose and then cut across to just north of Santa Anita. Felt like most rural areas down here , very mellow and safe.
