Mr. Pampas do Brasil Restaurant in Ensenada

BajaBlanca - 1-3-2020 at 02:18 AM

On our way back to La Bocana, we stopped for lunch at Pampas Restaurant in Ensenada. The salads are amazing and the meat was delicious. Not as good as in Brazil but we aren't in Brazil!

This popular style of restaurant is called a churrascaria - it consists of many salads and side dishes but the main "ingredient" is all different meats grilled and brought to your table until you turn the gizmo to NO.

I also had a caipirinha, which is our traditional liquor, made from sugarcane. Yummmm

Price is 330 pesos per person.

Here we are:

This is the yes to more meat or no to more meat gizmo:

This wall art is a combo of the Brazilian colors, samba on the left and capoeira which is a dance martial art combo started by the African slaves brought to Brazil.

We love our cheese bread (pao de queijo) which is made with a special starter. It is now even available, frozen, at Costco. It has a unique taste … my family LOVES it.

Pampas does not even come close to the real deal in Brazil but it is fun and different!

Blanca and Les, we eat at this restaurant often as we love the meat served there. At one time it wasn't very good and the cuts of meats were tough and not up to the standards of what is served in Brazil. The main difference from this place and the Brazilian restaurants is that the salad bars in Brazil is usually so long you need to pay a toll to get through it all! I have eaten at so many of these in many different cities in Brazil and each and everyone was fantastic! They fill up fast and seat usually 200 people. This one in Ensenada is good on a much smaller scale and they have improved quite a lot. For those of you that enjoy BBQed meat and as much as you want with a great salad bar - try it out.

where is it to be found?

one of our top 5 places to eat...starve the day before so you can enjoy all the wonderful cuts...avoid the salad bar!

BajaBlanca - 1-5-2020 at 01:20 PM

Stay away from the salad bar is exactly what I do!

I so love bbq meats … yours truly was so happy that evening.

What I didn't see this time but did eat the last time we were at PAMPAS was the heart of palms. If you ever get a chance, try them out.

LizardLips! what were you doing in Brazil and which was your favorite city?

Right, who goes to an all-you-can-eat meat orgy and wants a salad? LOL

We ate at one in Tijuana with Antonio (BajaCactus) years ago, and it was amazing! Have eaten at one in Las Vegas/ Henderson a couple years ago... wonderful, as well. The one that was nearby in San Marcos, CA didn't last more than a year or two... never got to try it. That kind of meat fest we can only handle once a year to once every five years, it seems, lol.

I do pretty good on my own bbq grille here, with just one kind of meat at a time! Pork chops tonight marientated in a Baja Chipotle sauce.

I have been to Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Palmas, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Manaus, Rio, Brasilia and Sao Paulo many times, working. My favorite is Rio! So much to do and the golf courses are great. I also played in Sao Paulo and a gator chewed up my ball. The best Churra was in Curitiba up in the hills overlooking the city. I really love Brasil. :bounce:

Me too! We are headed there for my 40 year high school reunion and will extend the trip a la Les style! Probably go south. SOOO HAPPY!!

Gators? dang. Surely not it Sao Paulo city?

lizard lips - 1-7-2020 at 07:15 AM

Apparently the golf course owner put his croc in a fenced in area that occasionally got out on the course. Have a great reunion.

When we lived in Miami as kids, our babysitter had a huge scar on her thigh where she had been bitten by a gator in the Everglades. He bit, must not have liked the taste?? and let go. Can you imagine?
