San Ignacio Places to Stay

Maybe this subject is covered somewhere?
Looking for a reasonably priced place in San Ignacio (besides the Pinta)
that is nice enough etc

The La Huerta, hands down. It is just past the mission. Has a market and nice restaurant, in front. Was around $40 for me each time. Not one complaint. One time the only room available was next to the office and I still heard no noise.

In 2015, on our way back north, it was full from a wedding party, so we had to try another... Ricardo's Rice & Beans hotel, along the highway (Km. 74+), was $80, dirty floor, c-ckroaches, uncool. The Desert Inn was over $100. Have not tried the Baja Oasis Motel, on the highway (Km. 72.5).

Taking note of this. We've stayed over night in SI 3-4 times.

Always rolling in very late and tired. Just grabbed a place. Not very nice. Will try La Huerta next time.

Get a reservation. This time of year (whale season) La Huerta is often full.

Last stayed here in May 2019 with Trail of Missions Recon and had a big dinner at the restaurant there.

Stayed three times in 2017 (January, June, August):

Stay at Rancho Espinoza. Can accommodate any number of people.
Very nice, complete with Kitchen, WIFI, cable TV, Hosts speak english, quiet rustic grounds, private entrance etc. Perfect for your stay while watching the whales. 5 star rating from all reviews. Reasonably priced. Check it out.

We eat at the Huerta restaurant every month, sometimes twice a month. The food is always delicious. I recommend the enchiladas suizas, they have just the right kick to the salsa. Les has the huevos rancheros.

Just looked at Rancho Espinoza and it sure looks pretty! Are the owners American? Do they live in Abre?

I would not recommend the Desert Inn restaurant. We only ate here once. The food was poor and they significantly over charged us. The waiter would not give me the menu back so I could show him his “errors “.

There is a pink food shack in the square. I had the best pork tostados in Baja there. It is not open for dinner, more of a lunch spot.

Airbnb never gives exact location until you book. I have never been to this ranch but it seems to be not too far from town if you look at their photo.

There is another small hotel on the left side of the street as you pass the Mission. I can't remember the name of it but it has an artistic garden with sculptures of giraffes and other interesting pieces. Neighbors of ours stayed there and liked it, said the rooms are a tad small. Carlotta is the owner and her caretaker is Mario, whose sister is our neighbor here in La Bocana … the location's fantastic since you can walk to La Huerta hotel restaurant or perhaps 30 steps to the main square with tons of eating options.

Ya,... but not willing to book a space in SI unless it is easy walk to town square. SI attraction is the town, being a mile or two away from town would be undesirable.

Rancho Espinoza is located 1 mile from the oasis city of San Ignacio. It is located on 2 acres surrounded by the Sonoran desert landscape. The original ranch house was built in adobe, brick about 1920. After years of deterioration, it was restored in 2016 by the great granddaughter María de Jesús Espinoza Jiménez. Maria is married to William (NorteAmericano) and they live in Punta Abreojos.

La Huerta is our favorite and reasonable

Desert Inn is nostalgic and not bad, but restaurant isn't good and too far to walk to anything. And not cheap

Baja Oasis Motel on the highway & was great the time we stayed. Big Clean Room. Hot Shower. 24hr security with good parking courtyard. Yes there is some highway noise but wasn't a big deal for us. Very inexpensive but this was 5 years ago.

la huerta is 200 meters from the town square
desert inn is maybe 700 meters from town square.
surely, if you can walk 200 m, then you can walk 700 m to desert inn! it is a nice road, easy walk, take a flashlight if you have trouble seeing at night.
a walk is good for you after a meal!

p.s everyone that visits san ignacio should do the hike up onto the mesa NE of town. it is about 1 km hike, well-used trail, so easy to find your way -- and the view of town from top of mesa is great

best hike in San Ignacio is up the Camino Real in the south-east corner of town (700 meters from La Huerta)
one of the best looking stretches of Camino Real

La Huerta for sure - hard to contact sometimes, FB messenger can work. I was not able to book rooms months ago for a stay next month - this is the busy whale season.

Yes, it is... the creators also have many photos taken along the way, just click on the camera icon.
To use the site, once on Google Earth, you do need to spread the timeline bar tabs apart to see all of the waypoints... This couple really did a ton of work!

You zoom in to see more detail... This view is showing the trail markers from Mission Santa María to Mission San Fernando. They also include the Serra Cargo Trail (aka Antelope Trail) from Gonzaga Bay up to the Camino Real junction, 3.5 miles northbound from Mission Santa María.

booked a room at La Huerta and will try the food as well -

is that hiking trail easy enough to spot?
