Loreto Yellowtail + Restaurant report

defrag4 - 2-25-2020 at 10:43 AM

its yellowtail season again here in Loreto, MX, the bite is HOT right now, loaded up the boat with beer and headed out to make bait at sunrise

sabiki'd up some mackerel and headed to the fishing grounds

dropped the macks to the bottom, ~200ft, and started drifting, after about 20 minutes we were hooked up, my buddy and his chick lost 2 fish, and then I got hooked up, after about a 20 minute fight, I landed my feesh, a nice ~25 pounder! This is a yellowtail amberjack, aka jurel in spanish, aka hamachi in japanese

headed over to the beach to have a few brewskis before going back to the marina

back at the marina we cleaned up the fish and headed over to my favorite restaurant here in town, Buena Vida, the chef is incredible, he just won 1st place in a sashimi compeition down in Los Cabos last week, Chef Leonardo prepared the fish in a few different styles, sashimi, red and green aguachile, and 2 styles of ceviche as well, everything was plated beautifully and tasted amazing, World Class meal!

the chef with his famous sashimi

ceviche yucateco

sashimi

chicas with the spread

we ate till we were stuffed and still had plenty of leftovers

Price for this custom cooked meal for 6? $40 USD

Viva mexico!

Your photos are very clear for me, but very slow to download on the marginal WIFI connection I am using right now. I'm jealous!

On the north bank of the arroyo and east side of Madero at crossing between Loreto proper and Colonia Zaragosa.

Great report, defrag!

Congratulations on adapting to Loreto so well and fast! We never did touch base with you last fall and winter but will be returning soon and we can get together then.

Just one question, if I am not mistaken, that looks like Tecate and Corona beer. What are you thinking?

What fishing is about. Catch a fish, have a few cold ones with friends, Sustainable. Bravo.

What fishing is about.

Punta Lobos at 6am, catch a rooster in minutes, throw it back. Further N. near the light house, a whale is close enough to the sand I cast to the left/right to avoid it. It was on it's side with fin in the air -- assuming it was scratching itself on the bottom.

Hour later hook a medium sierra and lose it half way in.

Spectacular sunrise with rays of sunlight moving over the Sierra de la Laguna mountains.

It just doesn't get any better, thanks.

I only wake up early for 2 things, fishing and airplanes!

Sunrises over the Sierra Giganta are absolutely amazing and make it worth the early rise, even if you dont catch a fish!

I still havent bagged a Baja rooster, its on the list this year for sure
