All BCS Beaches Closed

pauldavidmena - 3-30-2020 at 05:06 AM

From today's Gringo Gazette:

BajaBlanca - 3-30-2020 at 05:18 AM

Wow. Will wonders never cease. This is very good news but if 3,000 people went, what a zoo Balandra must have been.

Warf - 3-30-2020 at 06:56 AM

We took a drive yesterday to get out of the house. Thought we'd check out Tecolote...nope! Police have the road closed where it forks to Balandra. The officer said it would probably be 3 weeks before the beaches open. Oh well...it was a nice drive.

SFandH - 3-30-2020 at 02:42 PM

Does anybody have more authoritative info, specifically the beaches on Bahia Concepcion?

ElCap - 3-30-2020 at 07:02 PM

Semana Santa will be a big test. I sure hope that people will take this seriously, but I fear that is unlikely.

pacificobob - 3-30-2020 at 07:47 PM

Among my local friends and neighbors there seems to be a noticeable increase in concern.

Cappy - 3-31-2020 at 05:59 AM

Cerritos beach shut down Sunday afternoon for next two weeks

brucedog - 3-31-2020 at 09:48 AM

I went back to USA but I hear that in La Ventana they are going to physically block all the accesos with cars during Semana Santa

azucena - 3-31-2020 at 12:14 PM

Civil Protection just arrived at Los Frailes beach here on the East Cape and are making everyone leave, including local fishermen and anyone with a boat there.
It looks like they are serious.

la presa en San Ignacio cerrado

Juanita - 4-6-2020 at 07:43 AM

I talked with Carlotta yesterday because I had seen Jalisco coming into town with her small boats aboard his pickup truck. She was contacted by officials who told her the presa, our long lake, was closed to all use. The main purpose would be to prevent the large weekend gatherings near the baseball field, but she has closed her lakeside areas to comply. Very few people appear on the streets of San Ignacio now. The seamstresses are preparing masks.

del mar - 4-6-2020 at 11:31 AM

I thought we were doing pretty good up here.....this was Popotla yesterday:(

That crowd would be dispersed if it was a SoCal beach.
But given that's the staging beach for the ride up north, it's just another day in the hood.

David K - 4-6-2020 at 12:50 PM

I hope that kind of foolishness doesn't kill those beach people!
Can't people just postpone grouping like this for a few weeks to stay well so they can do it again?

A Study in Contrast

MrBillM - 4-6-2020 at 12:56 PM

Today's Riverside Press-Enterprise (A-6) has a photo of a swimsuit-clad gal solo sunning herself on the grass in an area London park with not another person in sight.

EXCEPT for the motorcycle-mounted cop she's looking at with mouth agape (thinking W-T-F ?) a few feet away telling her to get home or else.

SFandH - 4-6-2020 at 01:34 PM

Santispac is blocked off. Nobody can get in. Don't know about the other Bahia Concepcion beaches but I would bet it's the same story.

she must be a blonde to be thinking "WTF?"
any normal IQ person (and any non-Fox-watching person) would know that if you make an exception for one person use the park then another 5,000 people will think they have a right to do the same,... and 3 hours later you got a crowd swapping germs :light:

Goat the only idiots are the news reporters on CNN and MSNBC... I have never heard so much crap and hate! No wonder FOX has the highest ratings. Nobody can take all the ugliness those other networks are spreading.

Right... because since the very first case Fox has been the ONLY ones to be preaching we all need to take this seriously and need a centralized federal plan lead by a competent scientific board.

That's good to hear. This is one Santa Semana where which people should celebrate at home with their families. That's what's happening here in Asuncion. We did have a procession of people yesterday following the statue of the 'Virgin' though. There are no cases of the coronaveeerus, as they say. People freely go to the beaches here but they really aren't that inviting for sunbathers.

The World according to Doc Debbie

MrBillM - 4-6-2020 at 05:00 PM

Grouching that the recalcitrant public was not hewing to her "Stay Home" admonitions properly, the Birx declared that Grocery and Pharmacy trips should be curtailed unless "essential".

As opposed to recreational ?

Asked about that today, she said (in part) that families should ............. select one person to shop for the whole family every Two Weeks. Good luck finding TP on that schedule.

Not catching whatever followup there might have been, an apt Q for the Doc might have been " .............. are you F-ing kidding ? "

Try enforcing THAT and there will be REAL panic.

In any case, we're coming and going whenever and wherever we think safe and appropriate.

Maintaining social distancing, of course.

Along with those Last Resort defensive appliances for that (inevitable) day when things get really crazy.

That was funny Matt... 6 minutes of sound bites stitched together to create an outcome that favors one point of view.
I was talking about "news reporters" and not any of the "show hosts" who have opinion based shows, in your clip.

I hope you and Barb are staying well and safe in that beautiful home of yours. Let's hope we can again go out camping together again, soon!

It's called holding people accountable David. You say it, you own it. funny how you ignore accountability and go into defending the ideology at all costs mode.

They said it, it's on tape, they own it, no matter what you say, or try and ignore it - they said it , they own it, I hold em accountable - you lead the excuse brigade! I guess from your point of view, thats preferable to addressing facts that contradict your personal beliefs eh!

I will take a stab at bringing this thread back to information, rather than politics and sniping.

Civil Patrol came by yesterday to Punta Chivato and advised "stay in your casa". No out of the house excursions except to get food. When you go to the store only one person from your family?group will be allowed in the store at a time. Alcohol sales stopped also. In place until April 30.

Thank you, DouglasP. Good, current info. No negativity. We can use a lot more of this!

The alcohol sales being halted is no bueno...

4x4abc - 4-7-2020 at 04:31 PM

BCS government changed its mind - alcohol is back on. But since no beer is produced, they will run out soon.

SFandH - 4-7-2020 at 04:38 PM

I bought 4 six-packs yesterday in Santa Rosalia. I got my preferred brand (Tecate) but if that runs out I may be forced to drink Corona swill.

I woke up with a mild case of the Tecate flu this AM.

since mexican beer is so mediocre-tasting, perhaps this would be a good time for gringo brewers to export to mexico and steal market share by selling a superior tasting product :light::light::light: :lol::lol:

in this time of home isolation, i am sipping whisky drinks, and wines delivered from naked wines.

Truly amazes me some State Gov's are shutting down liquor stores, but GUN STORES ARE ESSENTIAL.

SMDH.

p.s., I can see the gun stores. I can see the booze stores even more so..... gotta have sumpin' to get through Space Cadet Commander Spanky Bonespur's presser/rallies. What exactly is ''essential"? Some large stores were saying shutting down ''shopping'' items for ''essentials'' only. I needed to buy some new tighty-whiteys this week... and some want to curtail that kinda 'frivolous shopping'. So just how essential are jockey shorts???? Them and a new pocket knife takes the place of TP shortage!

Does FOX have anything but opinionated show hosts? They were the last to hang on that this was all a hoax.

DouglasP - 4-7-2020 at 06:04 PM

For the love of heyzues, here we go again. Face palm.....

azucena - 4-7-2020 at 08:23 PM

Back to beaches closed.. disgruntled, likely wealthy Americans unhappy with their circumstances in the US continue to arrive here in Baja Sur to have fun surfing or whatever on isolated beaches, trying to keep away from Civil Proteccion . And obviuosly under pressure, the Los Cabos Mayor rescinded La Ley Seca today, although with imited hours for alcohol sales. This, after cases went up the most thus far in the last 24 hours.

Really unbelievable that some people think their comfort and personal enjoyment are more important than STAYING AWAY from a place with very limited medical resources and a generally at risk population.

What People SAY .............

MrBillM - 4-7-2020 at 09:27 PM

It should surprise no one that the vast majority of people might profess their social "virtue" and concern for the common good, BUT will invariably act in what they believe to be their own self-interests.

That's LIFE.

pacificobob - 4-8-2020 at 07:57 AM

Yesterday I noticed an article in a Mexican news site regarding 100 gringo RVs still on BCS beaches. Idiocracy. What testament to the Mexican culture that they just don't hate all of us outright.

DouglasP - 4-8-2020 at 08:01 AM

Two schools of thought to me, if you've been there and hunkered down, aren't you looking to potentially spread it more by sending folks scattering?

bajaric - 4-8-2020 at 09:42 AM

Seems to be a bit of a backlash against the ex pat community from the Mexicans. And who can blame them? While tourism has provided a lot of economic opportunity in Baja, imagine the reaction of people NOB if hordes of foreigners were allowed to cross north with virtually no restrictions and bought up all the beach front property and proceeded to destroy the beaches with fancy ATV's while the locals scrabbled to clean their toilets and serve them cheap tacos. But, Mexicans drive on the beach, some would say, well, its their country. For Americans who want to squash clams and turtle egss, Daytona Beach Florida beckons, except good luck getting a beach front property on a social security budget.

A Necessary Evil

MrBillM - 4-8-2020 at 10:57 AM

About 40 years ago, a longtime Baja resident and neighbor had commented " .......... They (the locals) don't really want us here, you know, they'd just as soon we sent them our money and stayed home .......... "

A bit of overstatement. Maybe.

In the best of times, cultural tension is always present and always exacerbated by economic disparity.

In bad times, expect the worst.

bajaric - 4-8-2020 at 11:57 AM

Mr. Bill, can I say that when I first started looking at this forum, I found your unfettered cynicism to be revolting. But it has grown on me. Now I look forward to your pithy comments --

I have found most Mexicans to be generous and tolerant, and its a good thing, because sometimes it seems the tourists do their best to wear out their welcome; but the people of Mexico are warm and welcoming people, bless them.

here is a quote. tell us these were not his words? we await your erudite commentary.

"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists."

Nah, not JUST the messicans, but Guatemalans, Hondurans, El Salvadorans, Nicaraguans all fleeing violence and strife... oh, and don't forget all the darker-skinned folk from all those "chithole countries'' and the evil Muslims too.

azucena - 4-8-2020 at 03:33 PM

Douglas P

I understand your thought about hunkering down where you are as a tourist, if you are already here and have been, you make a reasonable point.

However, the other issue is that if you get sick ( not even from the Covid 19) or injured then you will need services here from the medical system which potentially could become EXTREMLY over taxed, and you may risk not being able to access treatment. As well, you may also risk exposing yourself to the virus by coming into contact with others in a medical setting.

David K - 4-8-2020 at 03:47 PM

Mark and Olivia posted a photo of the sign the state placed at their driveway to Playa Buenaventura saying the beach is closed. However, their restaurant will be open including the popular Taco Tuesdays. This is on Facebook. Of course things can change overnight.

Chris Sabor was forced to close his Loreto restaurant which had tried carry- out service but it wasn't working out. He states he will reopen in October.

Good to know,... I have heard reports that caldo de caguama is a prophylactic for covid-19!
