Lake Las Vegas. About 40 mins from the strip.

Two days ago drove about 1hr or so to the Arizona side of Lake Mead (Nevada side is completely closed). Found a dirt road into a cove and we hung out there for the day. Dog went swimming. Was thinking about camping out, but rain was in the forecast for the next morning.

Now THAT'S one hand-sum Dog there !!!

If'n I was another Male Dog I'd be ALL up in that Sweet tail !!!

Sniffin' away and such :P

I suppose this was essential travel? Have you seen that there is a stay-at-home order and community cooperation is required for the public good?
Or rules and public health requests are just inconviences to be ignored in your selfishness?

My brother owns a business in Ohio that is critical infrastructure. He has two letters from DHS. 1) giving the right to travel no matter what local govt. curfew laws are in place and 2) the right to buy gas no matter what happens.

He gave me copies of the letters and sent me his company uniform.

Do you have such letters? Have fun hanging out in your condo.

So you got a letter allowing you to be an @sshat?

Like I said. Selfish dolts.

So Jizzy is an attorney. Reminds me of why they all wear ties.... keeps their foreskin from coming back over their heads. ;)

pacificobob - 4-8-2020 at 07:49 AM

Its one thing to choose to be socially irresponsible... another to publish the actions on the WWW.
Reminds me of young thugs posing for photos on facebook with big stacks of cash after they stuckup the 7-11.
I am curious as to why you feel that your entertainment and convenience is greater than the needs of the society you are part of.

No, he said he went to law school. He has not said he passed the CA bar exam. He did stay at a nice hotel in Lake Las Vegas, maybe even a Holiday Inn.

But, judging by his clear lack of ethics (disregarding rules, fake documents, and fake identity/uniform) he probably should be an attorney, or even perhaps our President.

A-OK JZ

MrBillM - 4-8-2020 at 09:29 AM

Nice photo. Nice view. Great Dog. Good for JZ.

Be responsible (in your own defense) and maintain distancing, but go wherever you please for as long as possible.

Works for me. Having made (4) RTs (since the "shutdown") up to our travel trailer in the mountains and intending to make more so long as I'm not stopped once the weather clears, I've not come within 50 feet of another person at any time. Excepting the guard at the gate separated by his glass door and my pickup window.

And, although the traffic on I-10 during that 50 miles each way other than commercial trucking is lighter, I have seen hundreds of cars, pickups and even RVs going in both directions.

The problem is NOT the travel. The problem is with those social gatherings.

Being considered (as one former neighbor in Baja noted) "the most antisocial SOB around" and similarly described (in varying degrees) since childhood, social distancing is not a new concept. It is now simply a matter of degree. Actually, it's turned out to be a great excuse for what used to be considered my rude behavior.

"Loner" or "lone wolf" was a more polite description for me. I understand completely. Today I realize why my childhood heroes were Jim Bridger and Jedediah Smith.

It doesn’t look like the dog or the lady with the bike in the pictures were anywhere near another person, and were within the parameters suggested. Most would be more exposed out on your beer runs.

JZ wrote " Finished top 10% at Loyola Law School. Have an undergrad in electrical engineering, so I focused mainly on intellectual property and contracts law.

Decided not to practice. I like jobs that involve international travel too much."

Practicing law requires some sense of ethical obligations.

............ That "Legal Ethics" is an Oxymoron.

It is, without doubt, a concept of great flexibility as practiced by a significant percentage of its membership.

YES, there's something desperately wrong with this egotisical azzhole going out and 'doing his thing'.

We're told by our gov't to STAY THE flock HOME RIGHT NOW, it's called Civic Duty. Like the bimbo sunbathing in a park, then everyone thinks they can 'do their own thing' which idiot Jizzy abides by. Ergo, everyone is a free-for-all.... liddle Jizzy is flexing his testicular enlargement capabilities. HE is the problem of containment right now, PERIOD.

What part of ''stay home'' do you not understand?????? Is it the BIG S OR THE LITTLE H CONFUSES YOU ALL?

I'm in one of the few counties in the land that's still virus-free, and we're ALL ABIDING the mandates of our SCIENTISTS. Jizzy claims to be an educated intelligent American, but his actions don't abide his statements.

Somebody please argue my points.

mtgoat666 - 4-9-2020 at 08:55 PM

Jizz is a short guy, his selfishness is wrapped up in his short-man-complex :?:

I wish we had our resident psychologist here to analyze jizz, but the expert was banned for uncouth behaviour :(

The above scares me way more than any virus.
And I think letting SCIENTISTS mandate how I take responsibility for myself is worse than letting the government do that. And by the way that's what our forefathers thought also.

Right now we're seeing a big debate starting about how SCIENTIST are covering their butts over wrong modeling...oh yea, they saved us. And ruined our liberties.

Doug/Vamonos - 4-10-2020 at 07:12 AM

Hi. I haven't followed your posts so maybe you mentioned it before? Is your dog an Akita?

bajaric - 4-10-2020 at 09:47 AM

JZ, the man, the myth, the maverick. He does not follow the rules. He will not allow a petty "stay at home" order to derail his heroic quest to stay in a hotel outside Las Vegas with the dog!

LancairDriver - 4-10-2020 at 10:13 AM

The barely mobile individuals are understandably upset with those who venture out independently and use their own judgement as to risk to themselves or others contrary to their government masters and science hero’s who they follow like sheep. Sweden, a socialist country, of all things, hasn’t imposed any restrictions on their citizens other than to use common sense and reportedly have very low infection numbers. The numbers of individuals who could measure up to the level of our nations founders has dramatically decreased over time.

Don't Roam - Stay Home ?

MrBillM - 4-10-2020 at 10:47 AM

Because THEY say so ?

Yeah, right. This is simply another example of reducing the problem to the lowest common denominator of control. Long before this, we have lived our lives constrained by laws/regulations written to control Morons. In this case, those Morons are the ones who can't control their impulses to congregate, especially those who allow their excessive young reproductive results to mingle without regard for the inherent danger to others.

Those of us who continue to Responsibly move about with care and discretion avoiding ANY unnecessary social proximity are expected to pay a symbolic price and attract mindless vilification should we violate the Herd rule.

So be it. I'm willing to cooperate with whatever distancing and personal protective measures instituted (including masking), BUT I'll continue to move about as I see fit. Equipped and prepared to defend those isolated travels against objections.

It's going to take roadblocks and checkpoints to alter that.

pacificobob - 4-10-2020 at 12:14 PM

scientists! they are the WORST!
I feel things like medicine, the space program and such would be miles ahead without them!
remember your ignorance is every bit as valid as their knowledge!

Excuse the Hackneyed Phrase BUT ..................

MrBillM - 4-10-2020 at 01:12 PM

It's NOT Rocket Science !

And, it's not about deferring to science. It's about striking a balance between safety, freedom and control. This constant drumbeat for blanket immobility is simply authority taking the most easily-applied method of control.

Long before there was scientific knowledge of Bacteria or Viruses and the scientific/medical "Experts" were utilizing Leeches and therapeutic Bleeding, the concept of Isolation was the only commonplace (effective) disease-control methodology.

[Edited on 4-10-2020 by MrBillM]

Lee - 4-10-2020 at 03:06 PM

Since I don't trust the government, and take all medical advice seriously, before making an executive decision about how it applies to my life, BillM nails it. It's possible the US can't have a scenario similar to Sweden (too bad), but that's not my problem.

JZ has the right idea. Get out of Dodge.

Some heavy handed judgment and opinions here. Don't mean a thing to me.

TMW - 4-10-2020 at 04:04 PM

Way to go JZ. Great looking dog. Have fun.

Lol, I was f'ing with the board's troll.

The letters are actually real. I'll post part of one tomorrow. I did make up the bit about the uniform.

My biz is considered an essential service for the US govt. and I've made letters on the company's letter head for all my employees who need to travel to our SoCal office.

My brother's 2 letters are next level though, from DHS

And that's without any roadblocks, Communities refusing entry, hundreds of people lined up at Costco, Vons, Walmart, (AKA crowd gatherings), and free food lines in large venues for those who are suffering from Economic depression.

Two days ago south of San Vicente fed check point with medic . Checking people if sick also if not living south. Sent back North as reported by nextdoor pastor . With closed church there they asked why go. It's closed anyway. . So far all open in my small City restaurants motels . T paper surgical gloves masks antibacterial soap . All markets full no patrol on beach as nobody there anyway except on us holidays. Two weeks ago two police trucks with two ambulances red lights on. Loud speaker ordered all people stay in house. Enforcement zero when it hits here maybe then enforcement people are using mask and gloves.

On the Road Again

MrBillM - 4-11-2020 at 09:59 AM

FINALLY. Some blue skies as the clouds and rain blow away for a day. Hopefully more. Much more.

Time for my "essential" 100 mile (RT) drive to check on the trailer, feed the critters and commune with nature while avoiding the people.

In doing so and assuming that the campground is still open, I have little doubt that I'll find (as I did last week) lots of people at the campground (with God on their side ?) practicing "social gathering" rather than "distancing". Especially, those dozens of kids grouping together. But, as long as they remain isolated from ME, mi esposa y mi chihuahua ........... that's life.

Speaking of essential services, I'm in a quandary over Haircuts. Wondering earlier in the week whether my usual barber was open for business, I drove by and saw that he was. "Great", I thought, but then .............. having been in there more than a couple of times when there were those suffering from colds and flus (including the barber at least once) ........... is it WORTH the risk ? So far NO !

I did go by Walmart and purchase a clipper/shaver, but it's obvious that I wouldn't be able to handle the entire surface (especially the back) and mi esposa is thoroughly unenthusiastic about trying to play barber.

Decisions, decisions.

And ANOTHER Thing ............ Speeding Along

MrBillM - 4-11-2020 at 05:11 PM

Since the "Stay at Home" advisories have (sort of) taken effect and reduced highway congestion, it has seemed (again today both directions on I-10) that there were a LOT more drivers going WAY over the limit.

Having mused over whether that "apparent" increase in numbers was accurate, the answer came from reading a news item today in the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

While overall (statewide) speeding citations were DOWN 18 percent this March versus March 2019, citations written for exceeding 100 MPH were up by 42 percent.

Sadly we had to start heading back from Arizona to LA today. Wife said we had to be back by Easter.

We did get in some mild off roading.

Sunshine and a state where you can go out and shoot a few rounds off pretty much as you please. To bad you have to leave.

Welcome back to Cali JZ.

Some hope here to...went for a drive to Del Mar yesterday and pulling up to the intersection of Del Mar Heights and 101 (6th street reef in view for us surfers), the intersection was full of people biking. Adults, kids on bikes, people waiting to cross on foot towards the beach, runners jogging in place. I couldn't believe my eyes as I had not been out in a while. Most all of them in mid year range and not one with a mask on. Looked pretty much like locals who could afford to live in DM and most who can are educated to that state of wealth, out on a weekend day.

Gave me a good feeling that there might be actually some lefty's who stand with me when it comes to taking back our liberties...at least the ones who aren't crowding out the gun stores and ranges right now. There's a shift coming and it's in Cali.

Signs of Normalcy Returning ?

MrBillM - 4-12-2020 at 10:11 AM

At the supermarket:

SPAM (the original) is back on the shelf at (more or less) normal levels.

Another positive sign may be that, although there is a continued absence of quality ALL-BEEF franks other than the more expensive Hebrew National, the Deli case has enough cheap "turkey- chicken- whatever" varieties to feed a Marine division.

Hopefully, an indication that good taste is overcoming desperation.

Toilet Paper was still non-existent, though. I was told that the TP (even with a limit of one/two) continues to disappear in the early a.m. soon after stocking. It's regular presence on the shelves will (apparently) be the LAST sign of abated fear.

Who'd have thunk that grocery trips would be one of the more interesting daily activities ?

AKgringo - 4-12-2020 at 10:21 AM

The local sewer utilities are begging the public to stop flushing anything but TP down the lines!
They are becoming overwhelmed unclogging drain lines and treatment plants.

AKgringo - 4-12-2020 at 10:32 AM

You would have to risk a trip to the store for corn!
Most people already have paper towels, napkins, and so called "flushable wipes", which are some of the main problem items.

As a life long gun owner and collector, I'm not sure what liberties you think I want to take back (or how a gun helps).

I'm actually very concerned about these panic purchases by first time gun owners. Was at a gun store last week, most everyone I talked to was a first timer buying a semi-automatic handgun. I personally can't think of a worse class of firearm to choose if you've never owned a gun. Can't wait to read about a spate of "accidental" discharges and gun cleaning "accidents" leading to innocent deaths. Watch yourself if you know one of these people, they could easily kill you.

OTOH, I just sold two guns that were on consignment (.30 M1 Carbine and a .30-06 Remington 700BDL), and am looking to get a nice .357 revolver for backcountry/travel carry. My .44 Magnum (6" Model 29 S&W) is just too bulky to carry around in the bush. I'm going to hold off until the panic subsides and I can get a better deal.

Don't forget the bullet left in the chamber, that's the one that gets you.

John

Gun-Buying Panic in Californy requires Patience

MrBillM - 4-12-2020 at 11:37 AM

Given that it still takes 10-days to actually acquire the firearm.

As to that "non-familiarity" concern, it is required that one demonstrates a fundamental level of familiarity with the particular firearm before it's released to the purchaser.

OK, so THAT (as applied by the vendor) is something of a perfunctory joke, BUT it's still hard to imagine the level of carelessness and 'cluelessness' that results in someone shooting themselves or someone else unintentionally. I've never been able to picture the sequence in which a "cleaning" results in a shooting. Obviously, it's a LOT different than any cleaning that I've ever done.

Speaking of handguns, this CV-19 business has probably ended my prospects of acquiring the one last semi-auto that I'd been looking forward to.

Ruger LCP. No longer available in California. I had arranged to receive one early this summer from back east. That's almost certainly off.

Bummer.

The sad thing is over the years, I've read of more cops killing themselves "cleaning" their weapon, or discharging it "accidentally." Unless it's suicide being covered up?

Even experts make mistakes, it only takes one time. My dad almost made a fatal mistake one day out hunting, and I never, ever let him forget it. Ever.

Even though I have a Colt .45 Auto, I'd prefer to use a revolver for home defense and outdoors activity. Simple, safe, and foolproof. Currently my Colt Detective Special .38 fills that home/personal defense role. Just want a little more horsepower for bear country and/or hunting.

Never been a gun guy. Always in a group when offloading.

But yesterday I was out in the middle of no where by myself. A car went by. Kinda spooked me and might be changing my tune on having a gun.

TMW - 4-12-2020 at 02:57 PM

I've had guns, shotguns and rifles, that I keep for other people but I've never owned a gun. I've hunted with a shotgun when I was young and I've shot other peoples hand guns including a 44 magnum. That gun destroyed all I thought about cowboy movies and TV shows or anywhere that bullets are bouncing off walls and wood fences. If you are shot at with that gun you are not safe behind anything except maybe a ten foot thick concrete wall.

I lined up two concrete blocks end to end with cans in holes and the bullet went thru it all.

Look at a Taurus, Ruger, or Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum. You can shoot .38 Special in them too, more economical practice rounds.

Revolvers are safest and foolproof, no racking the slide or worrying about the safety being on at the wrong time when you are threatened. Just pull the trigger and BOOM.

I'm looking at a Taurus Model 66 with 4" barrel. I don't like the looks of the Ruger, and a Smith is too nice (and expensive) for backcountry abuse. Taurus seems to have quite good reviews, probably $500 OTD.

Yes, that's what I love best about my .44 Magnum. It's magic. Few people really appreciate them. Literally, a hand cannon.

Lee - 4-12-2020 at 03:49 PM

Appreciate the simplicity of a revolver and carried a Colt 4” as LE. Time moved on and semi-autos just aren’t accident prone. Maybe in the wrong hands.

Knife: SOG Flash ll.
Sidearms: Beretta 92FS or SIG Sauer P226.

Soon moving into a Glock 17.

15 rounds double stack and one in the chamber. When fire superiority is of the essence. Revolvers just can’t compete. There’s a reason LE and military use the arms I have.

Yes, and every LE shootout I read about involves tens, or even hundreds of rounds. Few of which hit anything at all. Just trigger happy cops. I'll bet marksmanship was a lot more important when you carried a revolver. And control under fire, not "spray and pray."

I'm talking personal defense, within 7 yards. You certainly don't need 15 rounds. LE and military have different missions than your average Joe confronting a home break in. One or two shots at most.

If the Zombie Apocalypse arrives, I've got a couple AR's with 30 round mags for that. But, it probably won't ever happen.

Of course, this is just my opinion. YMMV. I'm not shooting at anything I don't plan to kill, and that should happen with the first shot.

Making BIG Holes

MrBillM - 4-12-2020 at 04:10 PM

I've never owned or shot a .44 Special or Magnum. While I have two .357 Magnums, for "on the road" defense, I used to carry a (45ACP) series 70 M1911. No problem in the car or the motel, but problematic to conceal on the body. Next to impossible summertime. The wife bought me an AMT Backup in .45ACP. Smallest at that time in that caliber. DAO with a HEAVY trigger pull. I read at the time it was measured new at 23 lbs. BIG downside is the tendency for a feed jam on anything other than Jacketed-Ball rounds.

I still keep the Colt handy at night (along with a 12-guage Mossberg pump in the bedroom closet), but usually it's one of my .380s or a 9mm traveling. Less stopping power (way less with the .380), but (hopefully) up to the task should it arise.

Thirty+ years ago, I bought the wife a .380 Beretta, but she was never comfortable with the semi-auto. She now has has a 5-shot Rossi .38Spl 4-inch bbl. Lightweight, simple. Whether or not she'd use it ...........Quien Sabe ?

I have my doubts.

AKgringo - 4-12-2020 at 05:19 PM

Actually it was a pond (my pond). My neighbor just bought a Ruger LC9, and wanted to try it out. I have a lot of secluded land with a safe back stop to fire into, so we burned up some ammo!

A gun is a great equalizer and gives peace of mind. It is very comforting having a CCW. Last thing I want to do is shoot someone, but wouldn't hesitate if it came down to my safety or my family's safety. With all the craziness in this world, I have just never wanted to be a sitting duck.

Well stated. I think it is risky to roam around remote areas with no protection or options and hoping the law of averages will cover you.

paranewbi - 4-13-2020 at 04:55 AM

I came to a conclusion when confronted by 3 men while my wife and I were in Mexico. Two had guns, a revolver and an auto, the guy with the auto racked it when he came up behind me. They wanted money and the keys to the bikes on the back of our RV.

When one of them made a motion that indicated he wanted get with my wife I said no. The knife he had in his hand came at my neck and I instinctively raised my hand which was stabbed through with the knife. They all looked at each other and ran off with what they had. I suspected they realized I wasn't going chicken and they were not intent on killing me. That's when I learned something.

I now realize there's mostly a basic difference between them with a gun and me, if I had a firearm at my disposal. They would use their weapons to instill fear to gain what they wanted...I would use my gun to kill. No doubt. That's a big difference in men who wield guns...intent. If you carry a firearm for defense you have better realize you carry it to kill, I do. And I have no problem knowing that 100% I would have killed those men. Otherwise there's no reason for me to have one, because if I didn't have that certainty, I would be dead.

It's how men train to derail the intent of those who would rob, rape, or cause mayhem. I don't care how big your firearm is, it's how you train to use it and I don't need to blow up cinder blocks. I train to shoot the head and heart, not body mass. I have great intent to not miss with the first shot whether it a 22 or a 308.

pacificobob - 4-13-2020 at 09:32 AM

i have lots of guns. sadly none here in Mexico. i have recently received my permanent residence status. i assume this means i can apply for a permit? any info on this?
oddly, i find many aspects of gun culture repellent.

Assumptions, Actions and Results

MrBillM - 4-13-2020 at 10:01 AM

Should a competent armed (and mentally prepared) individual find themselves in a threatening defensive encounter which devolves into a survival situation he has a significant edge. Should that encounter be resolved without weapons use, it's simply a great story to tell later.

An unarmed individual encountering even unarmed miscreants willing and/or intending physical/deadly harm is at a decided greater disadvantage and likely to become a bleeding-out victim.

It seems that those who proffer the notion that an armed individual "might" be at a greater disadvantage are simply engaging in "Transference". Reflecting and extending their own insecurities and inadequacies onto others.

It seems the most I have witnessed in Mexico are of the 22 rifle order, at least as far as locals go. Most were hunting squirrels.

They are more along the lines of why I own...not for a reason, for a purpose.
