There are a lot of new signs on the Punta Chivato road. Here is the one at my turn off.

Yes! Was hoping the quiet, two-lane road might throw you off. But I suppose if you can do the math, problem solved.

Can't remember his story now, but the long timers must know him. I hope he won't mind the post. THE most interesting vehicle in baja I would venture to say bar none. He let me have a peek inside. And the gym set up was very smart idea.
One day I hope to copy. A combo for this thread.

Abandoned campo at Punta Falsa. Now back to Asunción (via the paved roads from Tortugas).

Excellent graded road between Bahía Tortugas and Punta Eugenia.

In 2017, about 20 kms were unpaved.

Very cool, Jim...

More Loreto area signs, roads, or otherwise:

The start of it all... as far as California missions are concerned.

The founding father.

Code name: Rattlesnake Beach. Just south of Puerto Escondido harbor entrance.

South of Loreto... the 3rd California mission was here, a few feet from this sign. Nothing remains of it since 2001.

One of the famous El Camino Real bells made by Mrs. Forbes, 100 years ago to mark the route in California.

Stayed here in 1973 when it was the Playa Loreto Hotel.

StuckSucks - 4-26-2020 at 05:58 PM

All in the Loreto neighborhood

Where is the Eleven/Seven?? That is a good one!

geoffff - 4-27-2020 at 04:56 PM

On my last trip, I noticed many instances of double-road-signs like that. What are they thinking???

And speaking of 7-11, here's the "7-Lleven" in San Felipe from 2001:

BajaBill74 - 4-27-2020 at 06:09 PM

The 11-7 was just South of Mulege, across from the gas station. It is something else now.

A map of the Sanitarios of Baja California!!

Kind of useful...

MexicoTed - 4-28-2020 at 06:15 PM

It was on the wall at the old gas station/truck stop at Catavina before Los Pinos just built the new one. I'm sure it's gone, probably painted over.

On the wall at Rancho Ojai.

David K - 4-29-2020 at 07:42 AM

That is a rare one, Ted!

At a home in Baja were these beauties...

I remember the metal AAA signs in Baja on our 1966 trip down the peninsula. One, that was painted over with new wording was at Rancho Sonora (the original one, on the old main road) in 1974. You saw it driving to El Mármol from the new highway.

MexicoTed - 4-30-2020 at 01:55 PM

Love those AAA signs David.

David K - 4-30-2020 at 01:58 PM

Driving in Baja before 1973 was quite the adventure! It was like the Wild West, but with four wheel drive!

Yes, it is odd when bullets were so valuable that signs were shot up. I remember them that way in 1966, as well.

StuckSucks - 5-3-2020 at 08:51 AM

I bought a commemorative sign for the 2017 Mexican 1000 -- modeled after old AAA signs, complete with rust and bullet holes.

advrider - 5-4-2020 at 06:49 AM

I almost bought one of those remakes when they came out, kinda wish I had! Vey cool, just like the originals were..

Likely where the older route coming south from San Juan de Dios met the main peninsular road... between El Arenoso and El Progreso?
