Alaska is flying to Loreto??

TLBaja79 - 5-16-2020 at 07:48 AM

I have heard Alaska is flying to Loreto end of May? Anybody else hear this or going?
Is anything going to be open in Loreto?

AKgringo - 5-16-2020 at 08:11 AM

I checked the Alaska Airlines site, and it appears they will resume flights on May 31. I don't think I am ready to jump on board yet though.

The original link I posted must have showed the old schedule. It is gone now, and the flights do appear to be one day a week. I have had more trouble using their website today than in the past, so it would be wise to keep checking if anyone plans on flying soon.

Report from a local this a.m.:

Everything is still locked down. Nothing is open. Don't know how long -- guessing end of May but could be June.

now that Loreto has managed to stay Corona free - why would they risk that by allowing people in from a highly infected country.

With sufficient number of people dumb enough to demand this, it might just happen.

If the border reopens in June, airlines will not resume full operations for the next few months. The planes will have lower capacity, middle seats have been removed, not clear for how long. Expect higher prices, too. And more screening in airports.

With all due respect:
The risk versus reward psychology process of a mammalian species known as humans has been impacted by a naturally occurring force and is adapting accordingly, some will lead, others will follow.

Deer in the midst of their migration gather by a fence until just ONE jumps over the fence. We ain't NO different.

I know people who used to fly there but this fall are planning to drive, even though it will cost them more and will take several days. That is, if things stabilize in both the US and Mexico.

You have to check throughout the week or through the day as it changes a tiny bit at any moment

As of this Sunday morning... To Loreto

Alaska airlines, July 4 depart/ July 11 return = $224.00 rt. (LA)

Volaris air, same dates = $71.00 rt (Tijuana)

Most people pee $71 away on a Saturday afternoon... Worth the risk, schedule a flight now!

Got flights to Cancun in November = $135 rt. (Tijuana)!!

Don't forget, Mexico is the world leader in hiding numbers that don't favor it. Think kidnappings. Think cartel violence. Think purported number of fish taken each year.

people will do what they want. Jz is ready to go, you would need a gun to force me on a plane.

Vox has no incentive to be wrong. The Mexican government does.

Even if 7 are "suspected" because of symptoms there could be many who are asymptomatic. W/O testing there is no way to know. That being said, my father in law and I hope to get down mid-October to Punta Chivato to get some work done on the house. I plan to pack in all my food and supplies as I don't want to risk the health of anyone should I be asymptomatic or risk infection of myself or father in law while we are there. Good luck to all, stay safe, respect laws and health regulations.

IMHO, you know some wise people, especially considering asymptomatic people may be infected and contagious. I won't be flying anywhere until a proven vaccine is available.

Has anybody been on this flight since it opened back up in June?

defrag4 - 6-10-2020 at 02:52 PM

Everything still closed down here, no fishing, no beaches, no restaurants, and no alcohol.

come on down....

ranpar01 - 6-11-2020 at 10:11 AM

Assuming you get a flight, be prepared for changes - both Alaska and American are combining/canceling flights depending on how many seats are available.

Is it different in Cabo? On surf cam, 4 guys out at Zippers this morning and one lone individual on the beach.

I'm sure the thousand guys out in the water from San Diego To Uppers are going to be over running the hospitals pretty soon with covid...get your elective surgeries now.

I remember a break called 'hospitals' but I can't remember where it was.
