Current situation in Ensenada

I read a while back that Norteamericanos were being turned back north of Ensenada without proof of residency. Anyone have current information on that? Your thoughts on politics or epidemiology will not be helpful, but your informed and sincere replies about whether I may be turned around after hours of driving southbound will be very much appreciated. here's some info about the stop at El Sauzal. The main purpose is covid-19 screening. It doesn't address residency requirements, but you may find the info helpful.

Hey DanO (as in the surfboard brand?) -

A family member of mine passed through there Friday mid-day (Jun 19) and said he experienced no checkpoint on the toll road around San Miguel / El Sauzal / north side of Ensenada, despite having paper work read and expecting to be stopped.

Another family member experienced that checkpoint about a week prior, so it sounds like they have taken it down, or are intermittently shuttering it, or who knows, its Baja?

I avoided Ensenada heading south two weeks ago, so this is not directly on point. On the San Felipe side, I showed my residency card. That was not enough. I then showed proof I had paid my property tax bill in Mexico, and I was let through.

The link SF&H provided said that the "filter" is being staffed by volunteers! If so, I can imagine that staffing could be intermittent, and variable results according to who is on duty.

I wonder what sort of enforcement backup they have?

DanO this yesterday from the ensenada fb page......

My wife and I went north of the border for the first time in three months today. It was largely uneventful.

The sanitary filter in El Sauzal was in place and operating when we passed it at 9:30am, and again when we came back through around 4 pm. We had our masks on as we reached the filter and greeted them in Spanish. They took both of our temperatures, no questions, and we headed home. FYI.

Pretty sure they will take your pesos and give you a room key if you can make it to the lobby. Finca Altozano is doing takeout on weekends. :saint:

there are more active cases in Ensenada (129 cases, pop. 321,592) than TJ (94 cases, pop. 1,524,330).

I will not be testing the system!

Perhaps I should have asked what kind of "support" is being provided , if indeed the filter check points are staffed by volunteers?

I went through the filter yesterday. My wife was driving and wearing a mask. We were waved through. Stay in the right lane. No one was there so they motioned people to proceed. I suspect they have grown tired of it and just wandered off...
