Sad but true, and I would venture to say these numbers are way too low. The amount of poached live turtles for delicacy and those that wash up on
desolate shores is far more Unfortunately the use of nets will not stop, and these amazing gentle creatures will be extinct in most of Baja soon.

Golfo de Ulloa

Thanks for sharing the link which led me to Wiki and Francisco de Ulloa. He was a Spanish dude who knew how to get around.
Wonder if cahuama was on their menu? Last fall in the waters outside of Bahia Magdalena, close to if not actually a part of el Golfo de Olloa,
turtles were abundant. So many turtles everywhere, every time out, was part of the overall good vibe, the in the zone feeling.
While we did not see any drift nets anywhere there were thousands of shark hooks on bouys offshore. Only once did I see a turtle in trouble because
of those rigs and we were fortunate to help it swim away.
Another memory in Baja. I miss it.
The following link is to a video of that memory.

......... To taste so good.
Second best meal that I ever ate @ Alfonsinas.
Best, of course, was Totuava.
Back in those days ('70s) one could buy Caguama by the kilo at the Calimax in Mexicali.
