Until someone else pops in with a better answer, it would seem from reading posts the past two days that Mexicali is about the worst place to cross
now. They think everyone north of the border is Covid positive. My guess, the best way would be cross at Tecate, then go east on Hwy. 2-D, using the
Mexicali bypass to the south (signed for San Felipe). I hope you can have a drama-free trip... but it ain't looking too good!
EDIT: You do know Tecate closes at 2 pm now, yes?

Algodones is a good plan. You have the correct papers. Better if you had a resident card. Get the letter written in Spanish.

The curve for Arizona is going up faster every day (bad trend). I spent the last few days in AZ (work trip, essential industry) and I noticed the
populace is much less careful about public health than I see in San Diego. The curve in Arizona sure looks bad, and the AZ citizens observance of
public health measures is pretty pathetic from what I saw...

Until a "No Room at the Inn" point is arrived at among the hospitals in any given area, the general populace will "attempt" to move about and
associate freely to the point that they are comfortable regardless of any warnings or guidelines.
The masses have historically and consistently faced ANY crisis in the same manner. Ignore to the extent possible and then .................

There is no reason to expect this to be different.
Given the lack of prophylactic and therapeutic drug resources and the likelihood that an effective Vaccine is still a
significant time away, one should accept that the crisis will continue to intensify.

While the effectiveness of restoring the "mandatory" rule for masks in public may well vary from place to place, here (in Yucca Valley)
compliance "appears" to be near 100 percent. Certainly at any retail outlets. Those very few scofflaws tend to draw stares and aversion from those
nearby.
Which (I think) is the real motivator. Social ostracism rather than concern for transmission.
What pedestrians (and joggers) that we see are masked. Even the (2) service personnel that showed up today to work on our evaporative cooler
(and never got within 10 feet except when being paid) wore masks the entire time, including up on the roof.
Monday at Poppet Flats, on the other hand, mask-wearings were mostly non-existent among the mingling campers.
I'll see how that's going en la manana when I head up to feed the critters. And, take a swim ? With the capacity on the pool
reduced to 20, it's sometimes a NO. Usually weekends.
BTW, the CDC says "don't wear your mask while swimming."

Another local sign of the times has been the disappearance of "MAGA" caps in public. This is an area where they had been common.
