Tidiana house project THE HOUSE

I will start from the beginning. My husband Les and I have lived in a tiny fishing village for 15 years now. I taught English in both the high school and the middle school and thru meeting wonderful students, became ver involced in the community. Over the years we have had a surf club, a skateboard club, a bicycle club, various clean up projects and most recently, a college scholarship project. The latter is still active today.

A year ago I met Tidiana who stopped me while I was doing a clean up and asked me to help pay the tuition for her kids who were in kindergarten and elementary school. Thinking fast on my feet, I I suggested she help me with clean ups and I wd cover the school fees.

Here are all the kids.

Here she is helping me clean La Bocana.

Here we are paying up the elementary school fees.

In chatting with Tidiana, discovered she had 6 kids and was pregnant with the 7th! Cutting a long story short, she had the baby and her husband Abraham went for a vasectomy. Here we are with Dr Romero (our local mayor, on the right) who helped us with the scheduling.

In talking with teachers at the elementary school, I was told that the children were being bullied because they live in a shack by the old dump. It really broke my heart and I told the couple that if they could buy a lot, I would help them build a house. Turns out they were squatting on a lot and the owner of that lot made them a super deal for a lot not too far away. They worked and worked and paid off the lot!

So, I got my scholarship student Ramiro Jr. who is majoring in architecture to meet us at the lot and I asked him to put together architectural plans for a small, 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house, and price it out for me.

I knew we would need water so my friends and i got funds together to pipe water to the property.

Right now a septic is being installed after a local builder donated his time and dug the huge hole we needed.

So, here is the best part! Ramiro Sr. and Ramiro Jr. put together plans that will deliver a 100% move in ready 3 bedroom 2 bath house with elec and plambing and everything including the kitchen sink for US$20,000.

Not only that, they will hire Abraham to work on the house and will pay him $1800 pesos a week as well as train him in construction!

Life changing opportunity!!!

Right now I am trying to figure out how to raise the cash, all of it.

What about a go fund me page that tells a little about their story, could be shared on FB and other Baja sites? If you make it easy for people to donate a few dollars and share it with a lot of people? I'll start it off with a $100 dollar donation what ever route you go.

GoFundMe would work. I was surprised to read this:

"GoFundMe's fee is 5% from each donation you receive. The payment processor fee is 2.9% + $0.30 per donation."

So it costs close to 8% of each donation. But there's no free lunch and costs are involved in running a website. Plus a handsome profit I suspect.

It's worth it, it works.
