The Dunas Motel was open... and not much else! The El Presidents hotels would open soon but maybe not until after this event?

I have read and heard over the years that there was a thriving brothel business east of GN ..... so entertainment was available..... but overnight beds?????

Yes indeed, for the lonely salt miners! Mike Humfreville wrote an article about it. You can see the remains of it on Google Earth. I think Harald did a post showing it, too?

MORE photos please, especially around the Catavina area and Rancho Santa Ynez (Ines, Ynes). There is a highway dedication plaque somewhere along the road by the Rancho. I took a PIC of it years ago and trying to find it.

The plaque was at San Ignacito, 10 kms south of Santa Ynez, marking where highway crews from the north and the south met in September of 1973.




Sadly, the plaque was stolen from the monument... so the owner of the restaurant, across the highway, painted the words on the monument. He just got the year wrong, at the bottom!
