On my drive south I had to take a break and I pulled over around 5 miles north of El Rosario. It just happened to be where a sign that said
Bienvenido a La Lobera and there was a road to La Lobera. It said it was 3.8 Km. Is anyone familiar with that La Lobera? It seems like it is some
type of protected reserve.
Anyone ever go out there? If so, what's the scoop?David K - 11-13-2020 at 02:36 PM
Many Nomads have been visiting it many times since my trip in 2005 until my last time in 2016. It is 5 kms/ 3.0 miles in from Km. 47.5 on Hwy. 1.
The aquaculture project there was abandoned around 2015 and the road is not maintained anymore by them.
It is a giant crater filled from the sea via a tunnel. Sea lions are in there on the beach inside the crater. The coast along that area is wild! If
you have a high clearance vehicle, enjoy it.

It’s a beautiful place Howard, but a 4X4 is almost a must. One arroyo about half way in is very difficult. I saw a 2 wheel drive vehicle stuck in
the arroyo my last trip out there. Had to turn around as it blocked the whole road.BajaMama - 11-14-2020 at 07:53 AM
If you have 4x4 definitely worth a stop. I drove out May 2018 w/AWD, no problem but who knows how much wash out damage has happened since.amigobaja - 11-15-2020 at 10:05 AM
Generally we go out there once or twice a year and most the time there
are several non 4x4 minivans there. ehall - 11-15-2020 at 01:38 PM

Locals know how not to get stuck. Surprising where you will see 2 wd cars down there.
So true!
Nobody told them 4WD is required to get to their ranches and fishing spots.
Bald, low pressure tires are a proven traction asset on old 2WD trucks and cars! I admire the Baja California driving skill!advrider - 11-15-2020 at 06:30 PM
We always want to stop there but some how we are always racing the dark to make it to the cactus for the night!!! Next year for sure...Skipjack Joe - 11-15-2020 at 06:31 PM
Technically it's not really a crater as it was formed by erosion from pounding waves. David K - 11-16-2020 at 11:34 AM
When they called it a sea lion 'crater', I think they mean it as simply a big hole facing the sky and nothing about it is volcanic.del mar - 11-16-2020 at 08:31 PM
don't get too close we had a couple drownings a couple years ago....bajamary1952 - 11-17-2020 at 09:54 AM
Its a challenging drive for FWD. Done it twice so completed bucket list for this. All the sea lions I saw were very fat so guess they're are plenty
of fish in the area.

Great photos! The sign was even correct with the distance in!
