Any requests for items needed?

Mother of Dragons - 11-13-2020 at 03:39 PM

I’ll be leaving the 21st from Phoenix and going as far as Loreto.
I’m flying to Phoenix the 18th so I can’t bring a ton of stuff.....Blanca, lol, however smaller items that people are needing or craving let me know.

If you need mail brought down please U2 me and send it to me in CA, I leave here the 18th so it should get to me in time.

Trip report will be made, I’m excited as I’ve never traveled from the Mexicali crossing before.

I think you’ll like the drive down Mex. 5. Where are you stopping along the way?

BajaBlanca - 11-13-2020 at 06:30 PM

We are good but so kind of you to ask!

If you cross in the AM (don’t forget Mexican Auto Insurance) and stop at Inmigracion for your FMM’s (tell the official you’ll need 180 days). Make sure you bring passports for INM to authorize the FMM’s. Check with the Nomads on best POE, east or west. Have fun, stay safe. Only decent hotel along Mex. 5 is Alphonsinas, but expensive (and over rated imo), unless you want to drive to either Bahía de Los Angeles (35 mile one way side trip) or Guerrero Negro

Daggetts in BoLA if camping.

West is the most direct thru Mexicali, a little more driving on 8 but west avoids a bunch of in town driving. All the construction is done now and it's pretty straight forward going south once you cross.

pacificobob - 11-14-2020 at 07:31 AM

a generous offer.

I still have auto insurance but we aren’t leaving from San Ysidro
Tecate. I know to get the FMM straight away, you were a great teacher when we caravanned.

BOLA for sure but what about San Felipe campgrounds?

Thanks bajazaly. We want to hit San Felipe first so that’s the best crossing, Mexicali west?

Mother of Dragons - 11-14-2020 at 08:19 AM

Back to items needed. If anyone does, please let me know.

boe4fun - 11-14-2020 at 08:25 AM

I haven’t camped in San Felipe for well over 20 years, but I’m sure some Nomads can fill you in.

Mother of Dragons - 11-14-2020 at 08:39 AM

I have a lot of medical supplies for dogs, nothing illegal, if anyone running a shelter needs stuff. Things like fluids, dewormer, wound care, nutrigel for famished animals, flea and tick meds, collars ect..

West is pretty straight forward. Easy to park on the left just before you go thru the gates for FMM's and when you exit the inspection area there is only one way to go. Just follow that road to the SECOND right turn sign to San Felipe, comes out down by Costco. A couple miles from the border there is an arrow pointing to the right to SF, don't believe it, it goes off into oblivion.

If you want comfy camping, there is Kikis just north of the Malecon, hotel and campground right on the water or Pete's Camp about 6 miles north of town, good food and a bar, camping right on the beach. More remote is Shell Island at Km 26.5 but 4wd would be required but pretty worth it going there.

Thank you so much. I’ll look into both,

Hey Suzanna, try contacting María Peck de Acosta in Mulegé regarding the dog meds, she’ll know who to contact for their best use.

advrider - 11-15-2020 at 06:39 PM

MOD, very nice offer. You might check with the rescue in San Felipe on the dog items? Matter of fact if they need supplies I will send you a $100 to add to the lot.

Ok, I’ve been in contact with PAWS in the past there..
You’ve mentioned Maria to me before but how do I find her?

Wow, nice!
Do you know the name of the rescue there? Or a rough description of how to find it. I’ll donate that $100 from you to them.

Here's a list of charities and items they are looking for in Mulege - https://heymulege.com/organizations/

We are currently camping in San Felipe at Victor's RV park. It's about a half mile walk to the Malecon. They have a fenced dry camping area if you want something simple.

Cool, thank you. I just want food close by, all the best street foods.
I was leaning towards La Palapa but only if we could get beachfront.
How long are you there because we may be in san Felipe tomorrow just to get ahead of any restrictions coming.

We are leaving tomorrow, Wednesday. I don't think you will have a problem getting a good site. Baja 1000 is this weekend so maybe more crowded or not as the race will be outside of town and coming through late at night?

Mother of Dragons - 11-19-2020 at 09:05 AM

Thank you, we are going check there and la palapa today.
Leaving Phoenix soon.

If anyone wants to WhatsApp me there my #805 441-3771
